How does Gta IV look all maxed out with no restrictions compared with consoles. Pc version is very cheap now at 20 bucks and may get it in december. Already got it on xbox 360 but not renewing live and it will run out in about 20 days. Anyone got pics.

Not all the settings have to be maxed out - just the texture settings. The difference between the console version and the PC version is like wearing glasses, and then taking them off. The clarity of the PC version is just stunning in comparison.

what are your specs on you pc harjyotbanwait? because gta4 is reeeaally processor heavy and also vram heavy. it's like the only pc game that actually runs a lot better with a quad core.

Need to wait until Christmas. Getting a custom rig with an i7 920, at least 6GB ddr3 and a 5870x2. Have 3GB ddr2, 8400gs, and stock q6600 hp media center pc. 8400gs sucks for gaming and I must wait until Christmas.

Buy GTA 4 now, and put it aside. You should play this game with your new computer first. It's amazing.

I think game can be maxed out but draw distance is what gets FPS really down.I found no diff in my FPS when using low textures or high textures.

@harjyotbanwait: Just make sure you have your game and graphics cards patched to the latest version. I couldn't run GTA IV on my pc on the highest settings this last January...now I can, using the same pc, thanks to patches and optimizing my graphics card settings.

It looks a lot better in motion, I hope the AA mod will work good enough soon because it needs it, but the most annoying part are still the shadows.

Crysis might look better for a little less but it's not nearly as fun as GTA IV imo :P.

P.S There are some mods that "tune it up" a little, especially one that adds some blur to it, it looks perfect but I never bothered to install it. If anyone wants to make it look better, look around this forum.

You'd hope so brother because looking at some of those textures again....yeesh. Flat, undetailed. Not a good sign Maybe we can get some other people to post their GTA shots and see if they are any better.

The problem with GTA4 on PC is that the sharp high resolution picture brings out all the faults that you can't see in the blurry console versions.

the game is sooo terrible even in maxed....we all know the game is just a ported version...they did not do anything for the game...technical issues bad graphics even with latest patch...trust me no need to buy the game...of course the story is very cool...multiple ends...but when it comes for graphics :( and about getting heavy processor ...trust me about what i am going to say...my friend has laptop HP with intel celeron and 9600 GT 512 and 4gb ram and Vista. it all maxed running very smooth....it was unbelievable but truly it is :D

It has no AA, that's why I was saying about the AA mod which is still just an experiment and I really don't get some of you, the game looks spectacular in motion, you'll never see it as you see in a still picture, it isn't that bad at all.

Not very good pics, WTF?

The game's graphics are a masterpiece.

Do you guys have any idea how much effort went into creating Liberty City? Rockstar didn't just create a bunch of generic palm trees and slap them down everywhere - every city block in Liberty City is unique, and serves a purpose. You'll never encounter a location in GTA 4 that looks exactly like another location. In the collector's edition booklet the art-director explains how cities grow organically over the course of dozens of years, and how the art-team incorporated that into the creation of Liberty City.

Rockstar did too good a job.

People are used to seeing their own cities, so when they see Liberty City, which is the most lifelike city we've ever seen in a game, they take it for granted. Liberty City is weathered, it's beaten, it's eroded, it's sprawling, it's filled with life everywhere, it's a grand, magnificent location which you can explore for hours and hours. You can complain about the game being boring, but you can't complain about Liberty City itself.

I've thought the same thing...when you are playing it, very rarely are you standing still. The game looks great when you are playing.

Agreed. I played GTA IV on medium-low on my old laptop and pretty much everything high/max on my new dekstop pc...there is a noticeable difference and runs hell a lot smoother than my friend's xbox 360 version.

The lack of AA really ruins what would otherwise be great graphics, IF you can run the game fast enough at the high required settings, that is.

The guy behind the ENB series mod for San Andreas updated his website today. Apparently he has got anti-aliasing working in full screen now for GTA IV.

Can't imagine what it would do to the FPS, but it is good news for the long term I guess.

The reason you can't enable Very High Textures and High Shadows is down to your video ram. Your GPU only has 512mbs of ram the high textures alone will use 600mbs of video ram. You should only use high textures if you have a video card with 1gb or more of video ram.

Now having said that there are ways to do it, but it should be stressed that using these methods may be have a detrimental effect on your game. What you need to do is fool GTA 4 into thinking you have more video ram than you actually have.

The first thing you need to do is create a text file in your main GTA 4 folder and call the text file "commandline.txt" (without the quotes). Now open the commandline.txt file and enter the following exactly :-

-norestriction

Now save the text file and launch the game via the Rockstar Social Club application and you should find that you can now max all the settings out. However if you go too far you will experience things like bad pop up, missing textures and stuttering.

I personally use the commandline "-availablevidmem 2.0" myself which fools GTA 4 into using some system memory as video memory. You can find a list of the commandlines here :-

Glad I could help :D it really is silly the resource demands of this game (you need a video card with nearly 2gbs of Vram to max it out). If you are after making GTA 4 look better then a heartily recommend searcing for the Env Mod V5. I use the EnvMod V5 and the game looks pretty much fantastic, it looks how the game SHOULD look on the PC. Here are a few comparison shots for you :-

I think you will be able to tell which screenshots are without the mod and which were taken with the mod ;) . However just in case the blurred horrible ones are GTA 4 native and the nice crisp vibrant pics are thanks to the Env Mod.

consoles are low settings so if you play on low its same as console and your framerate will be very high maxing it out if where people have problems.

Depends on what you like but imo the ENB mod doesn't make it as it should be it makes it worse also....I don't know what you were trying to do there, but next time try to keep your bias away ;) the screenshots that don't have the mod enable are without definition, probably some other settings are toned down too.

OK firstly I am NOT talking about the ENB series mod by Boris I was never a big fan of that mod on GTA SA and I am even less of a fan of his new ENB series mod for GTA 4. I am talking about a totally different mod called "Environment Mod V5" which has been made by kriller2 at GTAF

As for the the screenshots, they were taken for use in another discussion about how different the console settings are to the PC version. That is why all the screenshots are at 1280 x 720 and the blur filter was enabled, I used to actually play the game at 1680 x 1050. Now I would quite happily redo the screenshots for you since you seem to think I have a "sinister" motive here. However I long since uninstalled this sorry excuse for a game that Rockstar put out and don't feel all that inclined to sit through installing the thing again.

At the end of the day if you don't believe me then that is up to you. I personally found the game looks much better and runs smoother using EnvMod with settings maxxed than it does using GTA 4 unmodded with settings maxxed. The only downside to the mod is no online play but then there are a) ways around that and b) GTA 4 PC online is a joke and not even worth bothering with due to all the cheating.
