Hi i just recently upgraded my processor to a Phenom II x2 555 Black Edition which means I can overclock it, so after installing the processorr my start up became slightly slow and when I launch GTA and came down from my apartment where I need to push that red door it was lagging like crazy I mean my older processer perform better than this. so I shut my whole pc down and recheck it. Finally I suspected that the heatsink and the thermal paste was the problem because when i tried to fix the processor, I repeatedly plug the heatsink to the processor because I was unable to get it hooked properly.

later on I updated my BIOS and was able to overclock the processor to a 4 core each core running at 3.4 Ghz and thought I had solve the problem but it was the same only slighly better. Before overclocking I ran GTA bechmark and got a good 38 FPS after overclocking it It gave me a whooping 58 fps with results I ruled out my graphic card as the problem leaving only the processer to be blame.I even ran a series of test just o make sure and even ran it on Prime 95 a torture program for rhe processer and I had no errors whatsoever.

I came out with the theory that because there was't enough thermal paste between the procceser and the heatsink, the processor would heat up to a very high temparature causing GTA to lag every 2 seconds after start up for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes surprisingly GTA ran so smooth wihtout even a single hickup even at night there could be 10 explosions and I would't even experiance any lag.I reaplied thermal paste from my old processor since I din't have any and after a reboot the temparature came down from 50+ idle mode to 40+ but the performance on GTA was still the same. One of my test was to restart the whole game to see if it still lags but it did not lag once the game run smooth without my PC being rebooted. So I restarted my PC and boot up the game and it was laggy all over again but after 10 minutes it was smooth again, weird.

Another theory is that GTA is not updated to fully support my new processor since It was just release a couple weeks ago like my mobo it needed an update and i even updated Windows 7 but it was still the same which could only mean that GTA is the problem. Could someone recomend me a good program that can test my processor or my pc to see if there are any problems I have run other games like STALKER COP , MW2 and Fallout 3 and it did not give me any problems BTW I ran STALKER benchmark and got about 90+ to 100++ fps.

Below are the scores I had and my scores compared to others. My ranking was 72.53% above others or something like that

Note that even before I overclocked the processor GTA was already running like that and that my overclocked processer is stable since I ran Prime95 program

Please forgive me for any typing or grammar mistakes, cause I am in a rush and I typed very fast without thinking much on what I am typing, there are still more things I wish to explain but you have to ask me for that and if I miss anything just let me know .

Sure it doesnt run slow at the start because you have only 2GB of RAM?

I agree, GTA uses over a gig ram from the get go. Get 2 more gigs then see what happens.

Do you mean you have a constant low fps at the start of the game or just for a few seconds? cause i get that i look to the left then to the right and its jerky cause the game is loading what i figure anway. But it ain't jerky laggy after looking around.

it's the cpu not the graphic card cause the lag is like a jerk every 2 seconds even without looking left or right what ever I am doing it just jerks, maybe today I'll get another 2GB DDR3 ram and see if the problem still exist

Your CPU seems a bit warm, you don't really want to go over 65 degrees, 70 could be an issue. Still, i doubt that's causing the performance issues.

thank for the reply, just got myself a 20" Hp 2009f monitor and it's running at 1600x900 I tried it on GTA and it did not lag after 10 minutes either so it's not my graphic card but tomorrow I'll be getting a 2GB DDR3 ram for sure I think that's the problem.

I guess it all depends on what exactly were the specs of your old system/proc. Was your prior system running XP? (XP uses less RAM at start than Win 7) Did it have more RAM? That temporary slowdown you experience is because either the video card RAM or System RAM is insufficient. If GTA shows your graphics settings are all green, then you must be using up all your system RAM.
