So I just completed the single player campaign of GTA V PC. Have also played a bit of multiplayer (enough to reach the level to be able to play Heists).

As an exclusive PC gamer, and having waited so long for the PC version of this game, I have to say I am slightly disappointed. Especially with the single player campaign. The 3 protagonist arrangement is a nice little feature, but the gameplay and missions are not really up there with the previous GTA games.

  • Most missions are way too easy, and I could complete almost all of them during my first attempt. No challenge at all. This is in start contrast to previous GTA games, where certain missions were painstakingly tough.
  • The single player campaign is way too short, by GTA standards. This was a big let down for me.
  • Cops hardly show up or chase you, unless they are part of a mission. Again, very disappointing.
  • The game pretty much walks you through by taking your hand, except in a few parts. The freedom of approaching missions in different ways, is usually just an illusion.

The multiplayer is certainly better in theory, especially the heists. But highly incompetent and foolish crew members are spoiling the fun for me.

I know that this game is being praised lavishly, but it is certainly 'watered down' in many ways compared to previous GTA games, especially the single player aspect. If Rockstar is going to stick with this formula for future GTA games, I feel long time fans of the series would probably be disappointed.

I'm wondering if it is just me who is cribbing about this supposedly amazing game. Would appreciate fellow PC gamers sharing their thoughts on this.

I actually loved the storyline and I thought it was fair long, took me about a week (spending 2 hours average per day) to finish it.

Most of the fun stuff is within the multiplayer, the real reason why I bought this game, doing some heists with a couple of friends or racing and stuff is great.

In my case it took me around 2 week, playing for around 90 minutes per day. But I do tend to play most single player games slow, sucking in the experience. Didn't you feel the campaign was way too easy, though? And also, wasn't the general lack of cops a glaring flaw?

I had fun and enjoyed the campaign, it was interesting to me. I could care less about GTA multiplayer.

I'm really disappointed in the online part of it... After you do all the heist there really isn't any more high quality content to keep you coming back.

I agree about the story part but I enjoyed the heck out of the heist missions. And I was so glad to have Patrick McReary back. He was one of my favorite character from GTA 4. But I say GTA:SA is still the best GTA game imo.

GTA5 was my first GTA. Pretty good SP. It took me 2 weeks from Prologue to the gold heist.

At least half the missions in GTA V were copied from previous GTA games. So if that is what you were expecting for your money, then good for you!

I played it a lot of PS3, a good amount on PS4, and a lot of PC so far... Think that says enough.

Cops hardly show up? do the other side of the last heist and time how long it takes you to evade a 5 star wanted level.

The cops show up pretty fast in my game, especially with Trevor. Good thing the 4WD he drove allowed him to reach places the cop cars can't reach. It's easy to find a secluded place to hide from scanners until the cops left.

Cops hardly show up? Not sure which GTA V you're playing. I've been exploring the game world before starting the campaign. After riding the Ferris wheel and roller coaster (for the lulz, natch), then swimming around the pier, I jacked a speed boat, beached it by the airport, climbed up , watched a couple of jets land (sweet), then, hey!, why don't I try to open this security gate by the runway so I can get closer to the pretty planes! What could go wrong?

Swarmed. Snipered. Dead.

I purchased the physical copy which is 7 disks, hoping to avoid a large day one update or download. No luck, it had a 5gb update and I had no internet at the time.. Not a good start. I finally get the game going a week later. And it runs amazing, plays amazing, and generally is damn amazing. Best GTA yet for looks and feel and funny radio shit. I enjoyed it very much, one of the best games I've played in awhile. Though I do agree this game has but loads of fluff I don't care to do, and is far far too easy of a game and my over all impression was highly tainted by it's shit DRM system that requires for single player play a internet connection and log in after 24hrs, and doesn't even ask to install updates before doing so.

Things I didn't like include; The story is good but not very long. The missions are on child easy. The heists missions offer only an illusion of choice and slight changes in scenes. The side missions forgettable and often felt out of place. The extra shit like golf etc... Holds zero interest with me. The cars drive like they are all tanks and have less damage and physics then GTa 4 with it's use of the havoc engine. And the cops in the game are retarded, super slow to react to my crimes and barely act intelligently except when trying to box me in when I'm driving slow. The horrible DRM system. Oh and no field of view settings for FPS making FPS useless to me as that low of a field of view drives my eyes crazy.

Like I said I enjoyed the game and it's story but beside that and performing and looking amazing on my pc (Ubisoft should take note) I wasn't all that impressed. I'm done it and I feel zero need to go back to it. Like zero. Which is something that has never happened with me and a GTA game up until now. Maybe in a few years but If I have to install some giant update to even play the single player later down the line the inconvenience will most likely stop me from doing so. And the fact mods aren't supported is going to give me even less incentive to do so.

I should state I've never played the online. I don't have internet where I have my rig stationed and haven't had the chance. Though to be 100% honest I don't think I really care to even be bother to come back to try it. It never was a selling point for me this push for online play with what I look at as single player games, and I don't see it ever becoming a thing that sells me on a game. If anything I wish they had said **** online, and just flushed out the game a little more as I felt it really lacking in length and depth besides the main story.

I'm referring to only the main story campaign here, which is as short as it can get. Not considering any optional missions. I suppose that wasn't clearly stated in my original post.

Yeah, that's what i meant. Cops don't usually give you a hard time, unless it is supposed to happen as part of a mission.

If you go into settings and then camera there is a first person on-foot FOV slider.

I'm completely loving the game all over again (played it on ps3). My biggest complaint is that in first person you can't jog in your safehouse or certain important places in the story. In 3rd person you can jog around, in first person you can only walk slowly. It's slightly annoying.

@funkyzoom: yeah single campaign main missions are easy to pass and you can lose the cops so easily I agree with you on that point but I don't think it involves all the missions .. I had a hard time when it came to parachuting. Maybe a mod could fix that

Now this person has perfectly summed up the game! I actually forgot to mention the nasty DRM. It's a real pain in all the wrong places. Especially since I reside ina third world country where the internet connections aren't always stable. It's ridiculous to require an active internet connection even for Single Player. When there is no internet connection, it does give an option to start in offline mode, but it never worked for me.

And of course, that 5.5 GB update immediately after installing, was a nightmare. I too purchased the retail version.

If you turn the UI off (including the minimap), it gets much harder to shake off the cops.

no it doesn't work like that , hard means tougher enemies , better stealth , Higher AI .... something like watchdogs or sleeping dogs

I haven't bought GTA V PC, and my main problem is that I find GTA V's multiplayer component to be crap on the consoles. Is it still done in a way where it takes forever to actually do what you want to do? For example, if I wanted to coop with my buds, do I have to keep replaying the same missions a million times before getting offered new coop missions? Instead of letting you select precisely what you want to play, does it only offer you 8 choices and force you to pick from those like on the console?

This is one of the few threads recently to actually talk about the quality of the game first and the technical side second.

I played GTA V on the PS3 when it came out. It must be one of the most overrated games in recent memory. I loved IV because it showed that Rockstar could be restrained and selective about what they included.

They're returned to the same annoying kitchen sink theory they employed for Max Payne 3. I don't agree that the game is short, its about 30 hours long, but most of the missions are rubbish. Its quantity over quality because they'll throw in anything just to see if it sticks. You'd think that the heists, being the centrepiece of the game, would shine but only the first one is good.

You could argue that IV had some basic shooting missions, which is true, but after 4 years of development since then they needed to come up with something better than driving to a location to shoot all the enemies. Or at the very least, come up with a stronger combat model.

It seems to have become trendy to throw around the word 'troll' these days. Why should I be trolling? I actually PLAYED the game, and just shared my experience.

And you STILL don't understand what I meant to say. I'm NOT saying he cops are EASY to 'GET AWAY FROM'. Also, you mentioned that "do the other side of the last heist", which means the 5 star wanted level only occurs during that heists. And heists are missions to, which means the 5 star wanted level is associated with that mission.

I'm talking about cops pursuing you when you run over a pedestrian (if they see you doing it), hitting a cop car etc., as it used to happen in previous GTA games. Not saying it doesn't happen in GTA V, but it's very rare compared to previous GTA games. I hope now I'm clear, and don't qualify as a 'troll' anymore in your books.

I dont even understand what you mean now lol.

Cops do chase you, and I think R* tried to give the player a chance by giving 30-45 seconds from escalating a 1 star to a 2 star, and this small increase means cops start ramming you instead of just pursuing you.

Is that how it works? The cops have been ramming me within the first few missions. It probably didn't help that I started wasting a bunch of em especially once Trevor showed up. I was wondering what the stars were for.

I take it No. 4 and No. 5 have different shades (bluish and brownish). Hell. I got all of them. Ha Ha!

I still manage to get away from them though so long as I keep the minimap on.

Is that how it works? The cops have been ramming me within the first few missions. It probably didn't help that I started wasting a bunch of em especially once Trevor showed up. I was wondering what the stars were for.

stars:

1 - cops will follow and try to arrest you

2 - cops will ram you and fire on you

3 - choppers join in, roadblocks are set

4 - SWAT joins in

5 - superior amount of swat join in

I take it No. 4 and No. 5 have different shades (bluish and brownish). Hell. I got all of them. Ha Ha!

I still manage to get away from them though so long as I keep the minimap on.

Is this your first GTA game?

If it is, awesome way to pop your cherry.

I doubt you got 5 stars, cos the Army joins in and they can send jets to kill you.

It's 5 stars. I normally look for spots where I can make a stand. Here, I picked a spot where the cops have to run on the open to outflank me. I simply mowed down anyone who tried. They have to come to the front of the truck to get me. There were multiple SWAT teams and at least three helicopters. There were also a lot of cop cars. But, they always came in at full speed from the road and could not slow down because of the dip. They ended up crashing on each other. with enough impacts, the pile of cars blew up.

I held out until the ammo ran out.

And...yup. It's my first GTA. The first-person view is the main reason I bought it. Love it.

Oh. Chop got away during a lull. I probably should have followed him. But, I wanted to see more fireworks.

  • Cops hardly show up or chase you, unless they are part of a mission. Again, very disappointing.

Huh?

The cops are out of fucking control in this game.

Outside the city, the most stars I survived (in a fight) is 3 stars. It's pretty hard to survive 4 stars. Strange though. I was already seeing two different SWAT teams with 4 stars....... The one shot you're dead SWAT teams are wicked.
