Basically what im asking is, have they fixed the major glitches and performance issues that were in the game when it came out ? Ive already played the game on xbox 360 but fancy playing it again, but on PC since I like how the graphics look on it. I saw the complete edition on PC for like 18 quid and ive been tempted to get it.

I can assume my system will be able to run it as good or better than it does on the 360 right ? specs in sig ;)

Might be some low frame-rate spikes occasionally on GTA IV but in general it'll probably run maxed out, I say probably because I don't really know much about AMD performance, I personally have no problems maxing it now, on a Q6600, 4 gigs of RAM and the same a GTX570.

You shouldn't just want it for graphics tho ;) gtainside

If you can, and you're not getting the DLC, try find the 1.4 patch, it's the most stable, 1.6 had severe pop-in.

Ok, well the complete edition comes with the DLC, so what would be the best patch ? To Daniel Dust, its not just the graphics, its also the range of mods that interest me aswell :)

Honestly maybe saints row 2 was full of stutter and bad gameplay but it was easier to run it stable than gta iv. So for me, gta iv is not that good. Your pc should run it just fine but this game is patching and patching and usually the patches fix something and screw something else depending your system. Ofcourse its been a while since i played it but thats my experiance.

You have a quad core so yes its worth it. The PC version is amazing I originally had it on 360 but pc is so much better.

Do exactly as I say though download patch 4 manually of a sharing site and install that and dont do any of the games auto updates. If you do the performance is broken from 5 on and if you get 5 it forces you to update to the latest or you wont be able to save your game ever. Patch 4 is the most playable and gives the best performance.

Ah that sucks...im pretty sure steam forces the updates on you. The retail game with patch 4 runs the best. Anything past that annoyed the hell out of me with horrible framerates on a more than capable rig.

Most of the current problems that the game has seem to be random so it's a install and see thing for the most part. I have seen people with C2D running it better than people C2Q and Quad Phenoms. In some systems it will have random frame hick ups for no apparent reason in apparently no stressful moments and stuff like that. If it works in your system it is the best version easily, if it doesn't you will be so annoyed that it will be the worst version easily.

Thanks guys, kinda thinking of avoiding it and sticking with the console version, judging by the problems mentioned here, I am probably just going to end up trying to get it to work, rather than just playing the game and enjoying it. Thanks for your comments though :)

At launch it wasn't but I believe it is worth getting now due to patches and if you have very good specs and its quite cheap.

Exaggerated reactions, but well, your loss, also, updating to the latest is always preferred. I had no problems with the latest patches and they improve the game a lot, especially graphics (that's why performance is "messed up" because it has higher requirements, requirements that cause no problems for a GTX570).

That's not a PC meant for GTA IV, especially because of the CPU, you'd have to play it on the lowest settings, to not suffer from the terrible performance caused by an archaic CPU.

They fixed the performance issues that were present at launch launch...but then absolutely destroyed the optimization with the DLC release. I went from steady 60+ FPS all settings maxed to a stuttering ~25 FPS with most settings maxed. On top of that, the mouse control sucks (it's too insensitive, doesn't pick up precise mouse movement). What also sucks is that it's too much of hassle to play competitive multiplayer with friends (there is no team switching unless in lobby). It's a shame really, could be a great port if they just fixed a few issues.

Maybe so but it should be better optimized. Not everyone can afford a really good PC.

IMO no, its very overrated imo. It doesn't run well either and i didn't find the game to be that amazing either.

GTA IV does not exactly run well on consoles either. Your PC will run and look better than the console version.

It has its problems but generally it worked fine for me albeit at only 20fps :( Still, it's a fantastic game and definitely worth playing on PC.

It runs great on my PC. I was worried about buying it after reading about the performance problems, but I haven't had any of those issues.

I would suggest you try it, there's a lotof fun mods, the visuals are much better than the console version, and the story and gameplay are very well done. Most issues were patched away since release. Haters either have bad luck or tried it on release and havent touched it since

It's a fun game, the DLC adds some great features and to be honest it's worth it for the mods alone, for instance there's a mod that lets you use the map from Vice City, and one in development to let you use San Andreas' map too!

I could tell you whether or not I think you should buy it, or I could show you.

This was after 3+ hours of trying to get the game to work properly. It burned real pretty.

works fine for me with the latest 1.7 patch, dont know what the crying is all about. Sometimes there can be a drop in fps, but thats rare. It looks great as well and the mods for this game are amazing, especially graphically.

It works quite decent if you have good hardware. IMO, it's more CPU intensive so a quad core + reasonably good GPU does run it well, with the latest patches of course. Certainly should have coded much better than it is.

Also if this helps you only need to install the 1.7 patch on its own, dont bother downloading them all and installing them in order :P

Right so I saw the complete edition for 13 pounds and decided to buy. It took me something like 3-4 hours just installing the game and all the crap that comes with it, plus downloading and installing the 1.7 patch. Performance wise, the game is running ok with mostly max settings but draw distances are set to 60. However, I am seeing a lot of graphical glitches, I dont know if anyone else is having this. These are just things like textures on the side of distant building look like they arnt loading properly or though when you get close up it looks ok. There was also a section in the second city where the side of one of the building and part of the path next to it was flickering quite strongly. The main game is patched to 1.7, and when i last played EFLC it got me to install a patch via windows live.

That's normal for GTA games, it's been happening ever since they went 3D (GTA 3).
