Hello, Ok so ive got most of my parts for my new pc build now. But ive come back to the same problem ive been having. I cant decide wheter to buy the GTX 285 or GTX 295. Ill be playing games at 1680x1050. So i figured a GTX 285 would probably be sufficient. However im thinking with more games being released this year, that they might require more power and a single GTX 285 might not be up to.(although i could get another for SLI) And then i think about getting the GTX 295 as Nvidia are 'apparently' releasing the new GT 300 DX 11 card at the end of the year, i thought the 295 would be a cheaper and more resonable choice rather than 2 GTX 285s. But then it comes down to the GTX 295 running hot and loud apparently which isnt good if its true.(Also micro stutter which as far as i know isnt bad at all) So could anyone give me some reccomendations on which to get please? And also if you know could you please tell me what average FPS a single GTX 285 with a core i7 920 overclocked to 3.6Ghz gets in the original Crysis and Crysis warhead. Im asking for these 2 games as they give a good indication to how this card might perform with upcoming games. :D Specs are below : Core i7 920 @3.6Ghz Asus Rampage II extreme 6GB DDR3 1000W Corsair Thanks in advance. :)

IMO get a GTX 260 for now, and save the rest for DX11 cards.

Yeah ive been looking at the GTX 260 core 216, gotta say it does look damn good for the price. Been put off the GTX 295 for some reason, seems to be a red hot brick with a life span of 2 months :D

Nopee, I just jacked the fan up to 100%. It gets upward to 74c after playing Crysis Warhead for a few hours.

EDIT: To the TC, the GTX 260 is a great card. Runs pretty much anything, and I run everything at 1680x1050 aswell.

EDIT: My GTX 260 192 core version, so you can expect like 5% more performence.

If you're worried about "value," never ever get a dual-gpu card. The increase in performance is never worth the price.

the GTX 260 CORE 216 is probably the best deal going. You could play crysis 1680x1050 at max with AA and eek it out. But if you got the 285 you could certainly go 1680x1050 max. But the cost for the 285 is just too much when the 260 and 4870 are much less. The 295 is just way overpriced although nice card. The 4870x2 however is not too bad a deal, that would also play crysis 1680x1050 max well.
