What makes you think it is even as powerful as 4870 x 2?They will be, only for games that run better for Nvidia add games.
dude my two GTX 260's in SLI will beat a 4870x2, and the GTX 295 is gonna be better then what i have, so i dont think it is hard to figure out, that and the GTX 295 is going to have physics support, where is ATI's physics support?wolfdogelitejust be happy............drink some coolade
i am very happy:) But I'll be happier when my Q9550 gets here
btw, anyone want to buy a lightly used GTX 260??

Depends what games you're trying. Not all games are in favor or Nvidia.

[QUOTE="wolfdogelite"]yea that's true, but again, I almost hate saying this by now, Crysis, only thing I cant run maxed with maxed AA, and it favours Nvidia, so for now I'll stick with themDJ8WORKSo what setting do u run crysis at?
all very high settings, no or 2x AA at 1920x1080, but thats mostly because i'm borrowing my buddies E6600 right now,
i should have my Q9550 tomorrow and then i'll be able to max the game again,
at 1280x1024 i can max everything, even AA, with this POS E6600 at 3.3Ghz

Nvidia will most definitely reclaim the title of having the single most powerful video card. Do some research Berserker, and you will find that the GTX 295 will crush the 4870 x2, while having the same projected price tag of $499.

so can someone help me out... now i'm having second thoughts, should i step-up my cards when the GTX 295 comes out, or should i step-up them to the GTX 260 core 216, 55nm versions now?wolfdogelite
Well, its kind of up to you. SLI'ing two GTX 260s would cost about $400 compared to the GTX 295's $500, but single cards usually have better performance and less issues than their SLI counterparts.
I am running one gtx 280 at the moment, no windows safe mode message at post.
when I had both gtx 280's in sometimes windows would ask to run in safe mode, its buggy in vista home basic 32.
in my case one card is better.
for you, just get the one gtx 295 card, if you really like it and can do quad-sli get a 2nd one later.
gtx 295 is basically 2 gtx 260's 55 nm process, 896mb x2 (GDDR3 memory I think) 1792 total memory per card, nvidia is saying that games like crysis is using 896mb ram not a full GiG, for now. and all the physix jazz they put into it which few games if any are using right now. More efficient and uses less power than the 280 and 260, not much less, your talking 65nm to 55nm folks, maybe 8 percent less power.
there is just no way I am gettin the 295, I just bought the 280's and I'm going to use those for the next 2 years if they behave right this time.
In my humble opinion, keep your 260's and wait for a much better card in 2 years and do a bigger leap frog. otherwise sell your 260 at a fraction of orginal cost, buy a 295 at full price to have it right away and replace it in 4 months when the next card comes out, rinse and re-use :)
i already have the two cards, in sli, not a problem except with the cpu i'm using, but that'll be fixed tomorrow, but i'm just saying that evga will give me what i payed for them towards the new card, or cards, so i would have to pay something around $20 to get either setup. which one should i go for, i know what i have is good, but i also know that for a very small amount of money i could upgrade, and my step-up period with evga will end, so i dont want to pass that upwolfdogelite
When does it end? Because the release date for the GTX 295 is a week from today. You can really see by then how it measures up against your current set up.
ok I just read your last post wolf, if the cost is cheap, get the 295's heck ya, don't pass that up. I only recommend keeping your 260's if your going to get hit in the pocketbook upgrading right now.
get em!
How much for? ;)i am very happy:) But I'll be happier when my Q9550 gets here

well i dont know about the old sli cards, but i have never had an inkling of a problem with my cards, and on top of that, i have seen a huge performance jump in adding the second card, not double, except in vantage it was more than double in vantage. but i have not had one game crash because of my sli'ed cards, now my cpu being unstable, thats another issue entirely. but i would think that perfoormance would be better with one card that has two gpu's on it because it is basically tricking the game into thinking it's one gpu. so i can see how games that dont support sli would benefit from the single card.
Would 3x SLI'd GTX 280's be better than 2x SLI GTX295's?RFOMownage
IMO, yes, 4 GTX 260's >3 GTX 280's
How much for? ;)Bottie-1991
$200??
seems like an ok card...
im an nvidia fan myself..
but i am waiting for the hd5870 and the new nvidia gtx-whatever, to come out, and which ever is better for gaming, with the price/performance ratio. is the one i will get.
but im waiting till they are both out before i jump the gun.

yes this is why im debating whether to step up to this card (For about $150) and buy another sometime before the end of the year, or buy 2 more GTX 280's sometime before the end of the year.
