Hey all, I'm looking at a GTX 460 as an upgrade to my Xpertvision 8800GT.

Question is, how big is GTX 460, specifically the Palit model.

It wouldn't have been an issue before, but recently I installed another hard drive in my case and it only just fits with my 8800GT, which doesn't have any sort of massive plastic casing around it.

I'd rather not have to gut my tower and put everything into a new case.

The Palit GTX 460 Sonic Platinum Overclocking Edition card is 7.4 in. long and 4.41 in. wide. It is also a dual slot card.

Ah cool, its about 1.5 inches shorter, that's great, though i don't know if the dual slot will be a problem...

Is there a card in the port right next to your gfx card port? Otherwise it's should'nt be a problem (Ok, my Gainward GTX460 GS is actually slightly more than two port wide.

I have the MSI GTX 460 Cyclone, all the cards are about the same length.. it's actually one of the shortest cards i've owned in a while..i got used to long cards ever since the gtx 260..short of the dual slot thing, you shouldn't have a space issue.. just make sure no cables hit the fans.

I'm guessing it takes up slot space below the card, if that's the case it shouldn't be a problem. The only thing I'm worried about is I bought a GTX 260 and it worked for about an hour and then my pc started artifacting... I sent the card back and got a replacement and it did the same thing... I'm just wondering whether there's an issue with my computer, even though it runs fine with my 8800GT.

well the 8800gt was made of epic win :P

perhaps dual slot gpu's in your case are gathering up too much heat then due to idk lack of airflow in your case? if thats the case id stick to only single slot gpu's :P

of which the xfx hd 5770 is the best for the job (unless you dont mind going to asia for a shot at the galaxy gtx 470/465 Saber edition)

Maybe... But the GTX 260 was pretty much the same size as my 8800GT, just had a beefy plastic case surrounding it. 8800GT is the best card I have ever had, It is made of epic win indeed. I've had a good run of cards, this is only my 3rd one (excluding the bogus 260) But I think I need to look into upgrading.

I almost went for the 4850 at one stage, but held back because I thought it wasn't much of a step up from the 8800GT, also because it was still a DX10 card. I then thought about the 5770 just because of it's DX11 capabilities, but performance wise it's fairly similar to the 4850 isn't it? The 460 looks like a good investment, seeing as I paid around the same price for my 8800GT and it has lasted me very well.

Yeah, 5770 had similar performance to the 4850, and thats why I decided to save a bill and go with the 4850. GTX 460 does indeed appear to be the best choice at the moment when price/performance is the primary consideration. I'd get it myself but I want to see what AMD has to offer with Southern Island and the refresh of their 5k line first.

I at Chief Value.com (sister site to Newegg) there is a sale on the EVGA GTX 460, with a Starcraft II trial and a free Metro 2033 from steam, also free shipping. Altogether it's $155.00. I found this posted at Slickdeals.net and it was only posted yesterday. There is also an overclocked one at $10.00 more. Get it while it's hot! I wouldn't be telling people but I am broke as a dog right now so I'm out of the loop!

Damn, I live in the Uk... that is cheap, that translates to like £100, over here i would have to pay £150 for the cheapest. The games wouldn't run either seeing as it's PAL in the UK not NTSC. Do they ship overseas?

You could even think about buying a 4890, here in the UK they are about £90-100, and very powerful, wouldnt say its far off a gtx460 in terms of performance, but i dont know an awful lot about graphics card..still it has a high memory clock, etc, but you wont be able to use dx11 (think it supports dx10 not sure?)

I don't know if they ship overseas - I haven't even gone to the site, but I got the news from a trusted source and others have confirmed it. I would just go to Chief Value.com and see. I am saddened that I can't get this card myself, because I am dead broke, but I would like to spread the news to others.

You won't see it until you add it to a cart and then choose the Starcraft II trial. They will then subtract the discount.
