Later this month I will be getting a new cpu, motherboard and ram and the motherboard that I'm getting is SLI. Is it worth to put in an other GTX 460 or get a better single gpu? I am asking because latley GTx 460s have been selling cheap

I would definitely say, "yes." I had GTX 460 sli myself, and price/performance wise, it's excellent. Sure, you will run into a few games that do not support sli very well, but there's the EVGA sli enhancement patch that might help with that. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with its performance. Performed like crap with Crysis Warhead though.. but my GTX 580 runs it smoothly. Like I said, except for a few games that might not even pertain to you, you'll be good as gold with sli 460's. If you need any help with them if you ever run into issues, feel free to PM me. (:
As with the i5-2500k, you won't experience a bottleneck. At least none that you will notice anyways. You could always overclock the CPU anyways. It's a nice one. You're all set.
I am running 2 GTX460's (1GB)in SLI and love it. BFBC2 with constantFPS over90 is great.
I can run any game I want on Max settings without a hitch. Of course I am only running 1680x1050, but that makes my FPS nice and high.
Nice. (: Another happy GTX 460 1GB sli owner. Despite a few issues I had personally, you really can't go wrong with sli GTX 460's. Price/performance wise, it's uncanny.I am running 2 GTX460's (1GB)in SLI and love it. BFBC2 with constantFPS over90 is great.

Terrible performance in Crysis Warhead, Crysis 1 ran great! Crysis 2 flickering throughout the majority of the game. Poor performance in Dragon Age 2 very high DX11 even after all the patches released. Still worth mentioning I think. Bulletstorm didn't support sli at 1920x1200 resolution. I also did notice a lot of stuttering in certain games. Experienced some choppiness, but when I went back in played some of those games with a GTX 580, I noticed that it was butter smooth even though they both ran at 50+ fps. Like I said, a few things.. but nothing major on my end. The Crysis 2 flickering was probably the worst. Not sure who's fault it was, but in situations like that, nvidia and developer should have been working together to solve issues.
I'd like to think that sli is always going to be great, up and running, and playable. But they need to make sure to create good sli profiles. Without them, you could kiss performance goodbye.

Hmm, fair enough, though it seems some games weren't made for SLI, but not all that is terrible though. Yup. (: Just to add, if they put out good sli profiles, then most of the issues concerning performance gets resolved. Now, when they neglect to do that, you can kiss performance goodbye.
i would overclock that cpu and wait till bulldozer and ivy bridge comes out. Is there any game you cant max with your current setup?

Yeah anything CPU intesive runs like crap, so most source engine games don't run smooth
Source engine games usually don't need more than a decent dual-core to run well, despite the fact that they all support quad-cores. It's a real irony that one of the first true multi-core engines is one of the easiest on the CPU. What source engine games are struggling on your Q6600?

The Source Engine, for some unknown reason, began to absolutely kill my CPU after the 'Orange Box' update to CSS (E8400 @ 4.0Ghz). It was one of the first things that prompted me to build an entire new rig.[QUOTE="RaZoR500"]

All source engine games are giving me problems both in single and multiplayer and it all happened when I got my GTX 460 and I figured that the CPU must be the problem as my gpu barely goes over 40% of gpu usage
Go for it. I once had a couple of 460s running in SLI. They ran perfectly fine. Some titles like Metro 2033 and such can't be maxed out without running into some frame rate issues, though. However, still playable on lower settings. They were actually on par with a single 7870 I once owned.

My son has a single EVGA gtx460 and it runs great. I'm planning on getting him another one in the next month, that way he can SLI them. He has the 256bit version. He loves it and swears by Nvidia now. LolI am running 2 GTX460's (1GB)in SLI and love it. BFBC2 with constantFPS over90 is great.

I don't know why but the price of gtx460 has been progressively increasing recently . One and half year ago I bought mine for 120 pounds , now I'd be lucky if I find one for less than 160 . I want to go for SLI connection for the fact that lots of new games are due to release next month and I need to boost up the video performance . Is it actually worth installing a second GTX460 at all or I'd better go for a new more powerful GPU ? Steve_LowBillGet a better gpu if you think about future proofing, the 1GB VRAM will limit you, it's why I upgraded my 2 1GB 460s to a 4GB 670.
