or two GTX 460's , but if the TC already has a GTX 550ti with a motherboard that supports SLI, a GTX 480 would still be faster. Just look up GTX 550ti sli vs GTX 570 it will give you an idea of what a GTX 480 would do. But for heat wise they would be about the same Two 550ti TDP is 116w x 2 = 232w a GTX 480 is 240w TDP Noise all denpend's on cooler and power supply requirement would be the same for both and if you can pick up a GTX 480 for the same price as two GTX 550ti's it would the best choice.A GTX 480 is definitely a better overall choice than a pair of 550ti's in SLI. You will get much more stable framerates with the single beasty GPU the 480 has. You would also be using only 1 PCI-E slot to get that performance. The power consumption is very slightly in favor of the 2 weaker cards in SLI, but not by a hell of a lot. IDK if they're still in stock anywhere, but newegg was selling GTX 480's for $250 the other day. That's a nice deal if you can find a price like that.

My wife has a 550Ti superclocked that she got for a very very heavy discount (it replaced a radeon 4650 and she's an nVidia fangirl and hated that I built her a machine with an ATi card) and I would only ever recommend that if you can get it less than 100 bucks.

Yeah, I plan on getting my son a GTX460 EVGA super clocked model this weekend. I seen two on Tigerdirect. One is the xfx overclocked version, which rates a 810mhz core speed, while the super clocked EVGA rates a 860mhz core clock, so I'm gonna go with that one. I was comparing the 550ti super clocked to the 460 super clocked and it seemed the gtx460 was the clear winner. His motherboard doesn't have two PCI slots, so I can't run two of them for him. I will either go with that one or the GTX560ti. It's just a bit more and I don't know if it would matter two much, seeing as how he only has a Athlon x 2 cpu, and I'm not sure if it will cripple a high end gpu.[QUOTE="GummiRaccoon"][QUOTE="04dcarraher"] or two GTX 460's , but if the TC already has a GTX 550ti with a motherboard that supports SLI, a GTX 480 would still be faster. True. The only bad thing is that his motherboard doesn't allow for a better chip uprade, so he's sorta stuck with that , for now anyways. I'm putting a Phenom quad-core in my other son's in about a couple of weeks. I think I'll just go with the GTX460 super clocked version for my other son. He doesn't really play any gpu taxing games anyways. Minecraft, Stalker, APB, etc.. I've been play The Witcher 2 on my other son's PC and while the hd6850 runs it good on medium spec, I can tell that his Athlon x 2 cpu is slowing it down, or preventing it from playing it on ultra, or high settings. Wouldn't a quad core help out with the game performance?the 400-500s are pretty outdated by today's standards.
