Been waiting for a while now, waiting for that 1 graphics card to double my current graphics card in terms of performance. Talking about the GTX 590.

I like the card don't get me wrong, but my current graphics card. Pretty much max out all the games I play and at very good FPS.

I can upgrade now and grab the 590 or I can wait just a little bit longer, until BF3, MW3, etc. come out and hopefully by then. Nvidia's new Kepler's chip will be out.

GTX 590 worth it from the GTX 285, or is just my temptation for me to upgrade.

That would be a giant step in performance. In terms of cost-effectiveness, though... I wouldn't do it. The GTX 285 is still a pretty strong card in terms of performance currently, and like you said, you don't feel like you actually need the upgrade as it can still hold its own in current games.

If you ask me, I'd recommend what you were thinking, which is to wait until the new lineup comes out.

This is like the 10th thread of random AMD hate... AMD made you mad or something bro?

590 is a beast in performance but you gonna be paying a significant premium TC.

I don't think a 590 is worth it at only 1080p, a 580, and even a 570 will do just fine.

People cant handle that Radeons are better than geforces... it shocked me too, I had an ATI card back in the day and the drivers were **** and i swore off them and only had nvidias then about half a year ago when i was looking for apc i was shocked to find that ATI's are better so i decided to get one and ive never looked back since... its great and the drivers are fine no problems ppl just dont wanna accept it. The fact that AMDs processors still arent as good as intels dosent help but their GPUs are great.

Trying to make this graphics card future proof as much as I can. Hoping the 590 will do it, but then again Kepler is just around the corner.

running slightly better on a few games now dosent seem like a good enough reason to swear off an entire manufaturer.

Nvidia cards currentlyrun hotter, draw more power, have less bang for your buck, and dont do DX11 as well which is actually the way of the future so I think he should keep his options open. Theres no reason for such bias.

At that resolution, no. You can achieve max settings, and high fps with GPU's out now that are cheaper. A GTX 590 would be overkill. And it's what? $700? Or more. Grab an AMD 6950/6970 or GTX 560ti/570/580 or something around that level and it should be more than enough for you. Or just wait like what many people have been saying.

No offense but I would knock out "future proof" out of your mind when it comes to PC hardware. You're not a newb, I don't think judging by your rig you put together. GPU's come and go. Since you're seeking a powerful GPU, grab a GTX 580, or AMD equivalent, or better yet, wait till Fall. I'm not a fan of dual gpu cards anyhow. Not even a fan of sli so much any more. I would know, I have an HD 4870x2 in my other build.

If you really want a new card get this $235 with rebate and then if it cant max BF3 you can always crossfire is then, a very cheapand powerfull option.I would do that or wait honestly. I cant wait to see whats gonna happen when they come out with 28nm chips...

You're welcome mate. As some of the SLi and single-GPU users would say and probably agree.. that single-GPU (if you can stick to one GPU) will always be the best option. SLi/Crossfire is a good option if you already have a card for a while and you're looking to value up your performance with another card to sli/crossfire. Multiple GPU setups run into the chance of bad crossfire/sli profile drivers or certain games not supporting it or running it well. You just have to weigh out the pros and cons, but it isn't all bad.

I can't speak for everyone, but I didn't buy my second GTX 460 until 6-7 months after I purchased the original. And this was because of a price drop on the GTX 460 1GB and GTX 580 was still too expensive. I saved a $100+. If I could turn back time, I would have forked over the extra dough for the GTX 580, though. Now, I have to wait until the new series later this year. :D I know, sorry, I'm boring you now haha.

well not distinctly better but these things fluctuate and right now across the board of the modern cards ATI prb has a slight edge for the reasons I listed earlier. Im definatly not saying nvidias are bad, but either wayppl shouldent write offone whole set because of unessicary fanboyism tofreakin GPU companies.

well to be honest you're fine with what you got. DX 11 still hasn't fully taken off yet which is surprising but I think a main reason for that is because intel still hasn't decided to support dx 11 with their graphics chips. Believe it or not but intel owns about 60% of the gpu market with their crappy arse grafix cards all cuz of the uneducated ppl out there who dont know the first thing about pc hardware. You should be fine even after when the AMD 8000 and Nvidia 700 series comes out

You may have quoted the wrong person. The TC wants to upgrade to a GPU now for a game 6-8 months away... I was just pointing out the obvious. Also the only thing to blame for the lack of support for the latest DirectX is gaming consoles and the added fact that there's just not much of a difference. Hopefully DX is killed of sooner or later.

I wouldn't get a 590/6990 unless running a multi monitor setup, 6970 or gtx 570 is more then adequate but if the upgrade is not due till end of year then prolly wait for next lineup our just get the current one cheaper. :)

Save your money on the 590, a buddy of mine bought the 6990 but he runs 3 24" monitors at once. Essentially the only people who really need to buy a video card like that is if you are running a stupid resolution like 5400 x 1080 as he does.

Its true I have always been an Nvidia boy I even put off my graphics upgrade for the GTX 590 but when it came out i was so disappointed with the lack of performance, anyway I got persuaded to go with ATi i wanted a set up that would kick the 590 and 6990 so i was recommended two 6950 in crossfire with shaders unlocked and overclocked to 880 and even with one in my system its rips Mafia 2 in max setting at 1080 with 75fps and walks over Crysis 2 and this is with just one 6950. I'm not bashing Nvidia because i love them but there prices are just to high when the performance is the same at the ATi variants.

590s are fail in direct x11 games and in many reviews the cards have caused fires lololol ....

safe to say go ATI on the high end right now

DeViLzzz

lol, im pretty sure nvidia fixed that driver issue. Either way the 590 isn't a good card to overclock. Currently the best bang for buck is 6950 in crossfire mode like poster above said, it rips apart anything up to 570 sli and costs $150 less too :D

-xwilson7x-

If your 285 maxes games you currently play, why upgrade? I'd wait for the new chips to arrive

Games are getting so much more advanced (terms of graphics) everyday.Even though I can maxmost games @1080p today.

Eventually, yes I said eventually. Still in my head, my gtx 285won't be able to play any future games. On playable FPS.

But thanks again everyone for your inputs!

What games are coming out this year that will even require a GTX 590? Main problem is that they keep releaseing these super cards and no games to take advantage of them.

What games are coming out this year that will even require a GTX 590? Main problem is that they keep releaseing these super cards and no games to take advantage of them.

There are a few games out there, that test the performance of that card. Someone like me, games that dip under 60 fps I find unplayable, especially for a shooter.

You should definitely check out this deal unless you have something against Galaxy Brand. It's about $460 after mail and rebate.. and considering where you live, you might not even be taxed. At least check it out.

[QUOTE="Hekynn"]Not really just grab 2 560s cause the price is better than a $700 graphics card.-xwilson7x-

The 560's ti, are an incredible value. Although I was expecting more of an performance increase from my current card.

How about the 570 or 580?

I'm running behind as of screen setup. Wich screen are you using to play in 1080? I have an old samsung 216bw monitor, and it max out at 1050. If I try a bit higher, I get a black screen! Are you hook up in a 50'' plasma tv?

580 SLI?

If your budget's that high to upgrade, and you're worried about airflow, just set up a watercooling loop. The 800D was made for that purpose after all.

Jesus. Crysis is playable at like 20fps for me... but that's Crysis. 60fps for everything is kinda overkill o.O
