GTX 680 is here and what's next?

The launch of the GTX has happend and it looks like it is doing relatively well at this point. The thing I find strange is that all the AMD GPUs are staying at around the same price points so far.

I'm also wondering if anyone has seen a hint of anything similar to the "road map" from AMD about the launch of their GPUs. On Nvidia's website they have listed a long list of mobile 600 series cards but the desk top only list GTX 680 at this point. Is Nvidia expected to just go top to bottom with their releases, or will they be jumping around like AMD did? Personally I've been looking forward to seeing a GTX 660 before I decide where I'm going for my new card(at this point I'm mostly thinking of getting a 7850).

A 685 would be a break from the pattern of their previous cards so it's doubtful there will be a 685. Have you seen a 585 or a 485?. I've never seen an odd numbered NVIDIA card. A 690 will likely be 4GB's.

• GTX 670ti replaces GTX 580 and shall also be 2GB at £320ish range, it will take on 7950 3GB - LATE APRIL/EARLY MAY
• GTX 670 replaces GTX 570 and no doubt 2GB also, expect £239.99 and well slightly faster than GTX 570 - LATE APRIL/EARLY MAY
• GTX 650's will be rebranded GTX 550ti's with higher clocks - JUNE

Nothing else is certain as of now for the mid range segment.

Wow, I didn't really expect them to do that, but I guess AMD did go high, low then mid as well. Personally I'm using a GTX 550 ti and I'm wanting to replace it with something lower to mid range and I'm hoping that GTX 650 ti or GTX 660 will be worth while, and released soon.

Hoping for something with great bang for buck at like £200 to replace my 275.

nvidia doesn't have a reason to release a "685" when the 680 already beats the 7970 fairly well. they will just go straight to the 690 dual card to compete with Radeon 7990 or the radeon 8970, whichever comes first. Also I don't think nvidia will release a $200 card that competes with the 580gtx. The closest right now is the radeon 7870 and that retails for ~ $350.

...Because it's the basis for low-mid end GPUs. We already know the GK107 mobile line-up; it scales from a 2GB DDR3 640M LE to a 2GB DDR5 660M.

Don't worry ionus, one of these days you'll learn you can't just run Chinese websites through google translate and take them at face value. ;)

Anyway, I don't think anyone but Nvidia really knows what's next (and even then they're probably having fits with GK100). Launching GK104 as a high-end chip (and without any die-harvested 670-type model) and GK107 as a low-mid end chip makes it pretty damn hard to extrapolate in terms of 500-series equivalents.

2) and 3) thats what i said but I think the 670 will compete with the radeon 7870 and the 670ti will compete with the radeon 7950, Leaving the 660 to compete against the 7850. So basically you will need a 7950 equivalent, the 670ti to beat the 580 gtx.. 320 pounds does not equal 220 pounds

Everyone including their grandmother is buying a GTX 680 right now so it won't be anything special to have one and with that said for Nvidia's next offering how much do I need to save up ? I can't purchase any card above the $500+ tax mark and be able to justify it to people around me so. Will Nvidia's next offering be something extreme that will cost $700+ and up ?

I'm completely with you on this. My 560 Ti SOC is eating games alive. I was just browsing on newegg, thinking about a 2500k and mobo to go with it since they're priced so reasonably, and I've had my PII 955 for about 2 years now. Then I slapped myself and realized that my current system is giving me more than enough performance. It's an odd time for people contemplating upgrades. Yeah, the new stuff is quite a bit faster than what we have.. but are lacking for performance now? In most cases, no.

The GK110 (GTX 685 or 780) is speculated to have a 512-bit bus, anywhere between 2GB and 4GB VRAM and 2304 GCN/CUDA cores.
