So, Ive just upgraded my CPU (i52500k), and, my Motherboard (Asus Formula) with USB 3.0, PCIe 30 and Sata III. 2 SSD drives.

But I still rockin CXF 5770s. Would it be worth my while to go ahead and get a GTX 680? Tigerdirect is selling them fro $550 at the moment, Im sure if I shop a bit I can find a better price.

My interstes is the EVGA superclocked version. Is that a wise choice to go ahead and buy one? or will there ge a better Gen of GFX cards coming out soon?

Thx all.

And the 8xx cards will come out 8 months after that ... and the 9xx series 6 months later... You can't purchased based on what's coming because stuff is always coming. I would say does the cfx 5770's hinder you from playing games at an enjoyable level? If you are hindered than upgrade otherwise save your money until you need to upgrade.

DX11 is suffering quite a bit, even with OC'd CXF 5770s. I suppose the real question would be, will one gtx 680 out perform my dual 5770s? Im also wanting to go 3D in the near furture as well.

Hope this clearifys my inquiry. Oh, an Will I see a nociticbly increase in quality and framses?? Thx again

The gap with GTX 680 and 7xx series is so close. Closer than GTX 580 to 680, that Nvidia is making a killing on the GTX 680 because people don't have the patience to wait 8 months... So your comment pretty much proves that people love to hop on new hardware and not think twice on what they are doing. Hell, I'm not new to buying flagship cards. ATi 4870x2 once, which was a stupid purchase due to crappy drivers, and GTX 580, also had 4601GB sli. Most people would agree with me that the rebranding that will be done in a short period of time = better to wait for 7xx.

If you are a serious PC gamer, then maybe. But I think a GTX 480 would be a wiser choice because it's £180 and yet it's still very powerful. The GTX 680 is about £500 which is damn expensive.

680 is a nice step up from SLI 5770s. Whitey_rolls has a point, there is no reason to keep waiting for something better especially when the 6 series has just came out, if he wants to play games better and has the money, just get it.

no, at this point a 7970 is the better deal than the 680gtx. both cards are clock for clock equal and the 7970 costs $480 plus comes with 3 free games, while the 680 gtx is now selling for $550 for some reason or other

I got mine for $500 and it was sooo worth it.

However, I sold my old computer parts and was running on Integrated Graphics so I needed a video card. If games are running smoothly enough for you, I wouldn't say you need it. I upgraded from a 5750, so it was definitely worth it for me.

I think so. However, I could think of a million better things to spend $500 on. It's your choice. There aren't going to be games for a while that will need this much power except a very few. I'm one of those that concentrates on the few games, and therefore I think it is worth it. You can sell the card in about 10 or so months for $400, make up the difference for the 780, and keep up like that.

The GTX 680 is a great card - yay.

But the bottom line is, should I be waitng til the next gen of Nvidia cards to come out then?

Might I includem that I plan on moving in to the 3D era of gaming - so an Nvidia card should be essential. How would hte thx 480 hold up to todays standards of requirements of 3d gaming?

Also people seem to like to ignore that the gtx 680 gets better benchmarks cuz it auto overclocks so its not really a fair fight pitting a refrence stock 7970 against it especially when they OC phenomenally.

Although the GTX 480 is the much cheaper alternative, I would at least get the 680 if you absolutely cannot wait. If I were you, I wouldn't buy the GTX 480.
