With a GTX280, 2GB DDR2, an E8500 processor at stock speed, and Windows XP Home, Crysis at 1680x1050 runs everything on high with no AA at an average framerate of 47fps, occasionally spiking to 38fps. Anyone else noticed the performance of this card?

No, I didn't notice it, mainly because I don't have four bills to drop on a graphics card.

Its performance for how much it costs is quite unimpressive, even now after the price drops and everything. Given how it compares to the 4870 in gaming and given how much you can find a 4870 for right now, the GTX 280 is worth around $350 at the very most, preferably less.

that's funny, q6600, 4gb ddr2 667mhz, 4850, 1360x768, vista, everything very high, 4xAA, DX10, hack to set graphics to "ultra" setting, and I get 22fps avge, 25fps if I go dx9 w/ 8xAA

still think you're gtx280 is all that?

It's great that there are still enthusiasts who enjoy the higher-end hardware out there, but things have changed a lot in the last year or so with regards to video cards. Nowadays a $200 video card packs a heck of a punch, and even cards like the 9600GT (even cheaper) are really good for what you are paying. With technology changing so much and video cards being so disposable now, I don't think I'd pay much more than $200 for a video card ever again if the current trend continues. However, I can see where the more expensive cards would have merit for those who run newer games at really high resolutions.

8xxxGT GTS GTX ~ or and ATi 48xx is all you need to game...

Edit - To the poster above. How do you play with less than 30fps??? Don't the constant stutter annoy the crap out of you?

Its a very good card, the best out there, but for the price ATM I would say not worth it.
