Hi all, for the rig Im building I have a PhenomII X4 965 on a Asus M4A79T motherboard. This is a QuadfireX board and doesnt support SLI, my question is if I use a GTX295 as my main GPU will the board accept my 8800GT as my dedicated Physx processer or must it only be an SLI board?

My other question is how much more performance can I expect from either a GTX 285 or 295 over a 8800GT SLI setup?

Thanks a bunch

I believe you can get the 8800GT working as a PhysX processor no matter the chipset - I've seen it done on Intel chipset boards (pre-LGA 1366) at least, and those don't support SLI either. And I personally wouldn't pay money for either a GTX 285 or 295 at this point, unless all you're going to do is Fold with them.

Nvidia locked out the ability to do so if an ATi card is present, though there is a work around with this, and a certain company is producing a GPU communication chip that will allow ATi and Nvidia cards to work together for graphics together or graphics + physics.

If i can render with an HD5770 and do physx with a 8800gts on crossfirex board you should have no trouble at all making it work with a gtx295. You won't be able to SLI but you can enable it as a physx card

Hi Just to let you know there is a new version of the X4 965. It runs at 125W

instead of 140W. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727&cm_re=x4_965-_-19-103-727-_-Product
