The power usage on the new GPU's isn't much greater than the GPU's or 2 - 3 generations ago.

I would imagine you would probably be ok if you haven't had any issues with your current GPU.

well my current GPU is the 460, though im unsure if i could handle a 470 because the gf104 is supposed to be much more efficient

Should wait for HD 6000s. They'll probably be half the power consumption of a GTX 470 and even surpass it's performance.

i will do that for sure considering i can't afford a 470 right now anyways lol but the price of a 470 probably will drop, i'll just have to wait and see how the 6000 series turn out for now

Provided you have enough amps, and plugs. Yes, it'll work.

I hope you are getting a deal on the 470 .. I mean going from 460 - 470 will give you a bit of a performance upgrade but is it really worth the $300.00?

Exactly. It's NOT worth the small upgrade at all. Just overclock the GTX 460. I mean, besides Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Metro 2033, why would you need a GTX 470? Even then, the GTX 470 still cannot grant you tons of fps in those three games anyways. Nothing that OC'ing a GTX 460 can't do already.

460's have only been out a few months and already you want to upgrade it? Not only that, but the 470 is only a tiny bit better. OC your 460 if you want a bit more performance.

yeah totally a bad idea to spend like $300 for a small upgrade. you're obviously not utilizing your 460 or something else in your build is slowing you down. what are your specs?
