Here is my situation:

My parents have always been picky on letting me install games to their "new" computer, but suddenly my mother had a change of heart.  I actually already own Guild Wars, but I have only played it on my brother's laptop... which is a little underpowered too handle the game (it was really laggy and slow on his computer, but it wouldn't be on the desktop).  So it would be easier for me to just install it and start playing, but then again I am not sure if perhaps WoW is better?

I'd install both, but I don't wanna push my luck right now... plus, it would be kind of hard to play two MMORPG's at once.  Can someone give me some advice as to which game I should buy/start playing?

My analysis so far:

Guild Wars

Pros: Free online, visuals don't look too bad, still has a lot of great RPG elements and (assuming) PVP.

Cons: Doesn't look nearly as expansive as WoW, not as many players probably play it.

World of Warcraft

Pros: Looks great, gets a lot of good publicity, recently had a major expansion pack for me to get if I actually like it, my friend plays the game as well so I'd have someone to help me out.

Cons: SUBSCRIPTION FEES!  Also, I'm unsure of this, but games that use the "WASD" control scheme to move your character kind of bother me.  I honestly don't know if this control scheme applies to Guild Wars or not, but for some reason I remember using a mouse to move my character when playing that game and not a keyboard.  I'd also have to spend $20 to buy the game.

I have Guild Wars and still play it but only played WoW for about 2 hours.

If both games had monthly fees I'd still pick Guild Wars because I find the pvp a lot better and in different varieties. Also, more balanced and competitive. The level cap is low so it keeps the classes balanced so no one can overpower everyone else because they played more. Another thing is that Guild Wars celebrate halloween, christmas and have fall/summer events to keep things new. WoW does some stuff for holidays but not as good imo.

If you choose your game by how many people play then WoW is the obvious choice. WoW has around 8 million and GW has about 3 million.

WoW actually does alot of neat stuff for holidays.  You have no idea do you?

And PvP is pretty awesome now, however the level thing is something you can't get past and I don't think alot of people would give it up.  One of the defining things about an rpg is the feeling of progression.  In guild wars you lose that feeling much earliar.

less actually, they release their numbers on boxes sold.  That means that it's in the vicinity of 1.5 mil.

That tells you something about the quality of both games right there. WoW, which costs $15/month, has nearly triple the amount of players of a game that has no subsciption fee.

OP: If you don't like the WASD control scheme, then you are better off sticking with consoles.

it depends on your playing habits.  If you're gonna play 4+ hours a day WOW is worth the subscription cost, but I know alot of people get burned out or stuff comes up where they don't get to play alot.  If you play guild wars 8 hours a day you're gonna get bored in about a month.

The thing I like about guild wars is that the point of the gameplay is not to increase your level or collect "uber" powerful items/skills.  The gameplay of guild wars is based around strategy instead of grinding since you can get mort of the best items/skills fairly easily if you know where to look.  When playing you and another player that has the same items as you can have very different results depending on which skills you brought (you're only allowed to bring 8), and how you use them.

:shock:Look here it is GW you don't have to pay each 2 months WoW you do,Guild Guild wars has less skills you can put on you're bar.World of warcraft has WAY cool looking armor GW is okay. Guild wars has more expansion packs WoW has only 2.

I think WoW is better because it's alot more fun downsider is you have to pay but only like 15$(GW is fun too but not as fun:|)

Guild Wars for your situation.  Do you want to pay to play?  Do you want to have your money go down the drain when your mom restricts you from playing?

GW is pretty much KOTOR in MMO form.  Its aweseome, if you want to spend your time rounding a group up and fighting, GW.  If you want to be pushed by the fee to maximize every playable second, get WoW.
