Half Life 2: HELP! wtf? Fire modes change

Some of my guns, like Pulse Rifle and Submachine Gun sometimes will only fire in single shot mode. I don't know if it's ammo related or if there is a control that alters this?

I haven't done anything that I know of to lose automatic fire. I didn't choose anything different. Sometimes this fixes itself but I dunno what's going on. It's driving me nuts. A single shot submachine gun is weak and useless and this is getting me killed.

Do you have any mods installed? I'm pretty sure if you don't that it's a glitch of some sort, because there is no way to switch the ROF for your guns as far as I know.
