hl2 is a OKAY single player experience ... the story line is fun, but not challenging enough
also, you would need HL2 for playing some custom modes (there are excellent ones out there)

but day of defeat source is just SO MUCH FUN, i love it, i am playing it a lot too, very very good

just buy both ....

now, speaking about steam ... look forward to Dark Messiah, now that it is only 20$, it is really worth it ... at 40~45$ i think i lost a bit of money for the time i played multiplayer ... but 20$ is a GREAT deal ... :P

HL2 by far. Even though it basically has no multiplayer, it give you access to tons of user-made mods, plus Counter Strike. Mods like Gmod, and Dystopia, and soon to be Insurgency are way better than DoD IMO.

get both, if you are able to ... it's planty of fun

**** find a copy of half life 1 and add it to your steam account
after go download The Specialists www.specialistsmod.net
verison 3 just came out, it's a hit !!! totaly awesome !!! best mod ever, even better than those on hl2
(personnaly, i've never had fun with deathmatches, but with that mod, it's incredibly good ... you'll also find other stuff than deathmatches)

HL2 has some great custom modes and comes with CSS and HLF2DM

Personally, I skipped HLF2 and just bought the multiplayer pack with DODS, CSS, and HLF2 DM

HL2 for sure, you get the single player of HL2 (plus you can download countless single and multiplayer mods), HL2DM and CS:Source. You get quite a bit for the price, definatly well worth it.

I actually hate Day Of Defeat Source, it's not just a graphical update like Counter-Strike Source mostly is, it also drastically changes the game-play in a negative way in my opinion.
