Half-Life 1 then Half-life 2?

I just got the orange box on the PS3 and i havent played a half-life game before...I was wondering, do i need to play HL1 before playing HL2? Or would i be able to understand the whole story by jumping straight to HL2? Thanks..

You can jump into HL2 without worry. But to maximize the exprience, I suggest you get HL1. You can probably pick it up at your local EB for $5. flipin_jackass

Personally though, I don't see any old GoldSrc games on shelves these days, not even at the bargain bin.
