Piece I worked on for the morning buds.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
The setting is near the Borealis in The Artic for fans that are following the story; Main reason why you see those shadows and effects like snow on her clothing ect.
Looks horrible.
1. Alyx is not going to be the focus of the episode. Frankly she might not even have that big of a role in the game as she has some coping with her fathers death to do.
2. Gman on the cover? No, you seem to miss the point of Gman.
3. The third ep will undoubtedly be about a race to get to the Borealis before the combine as the ship most likely containts portal technology, since its is an Aperature science boat. That is basically the reason I think the background you used is out of place. Edit: I see you do know about the borealis so im even more confused why the background is so busy. The place where the ship is desolate and empty while your background is busy and is more like the combine environments in HL2. Notice that with the episodes the game has done away with the industrial.
Harsh? Maybe but if you made a thread about it it must mean you want opinions.
Cool, thanks for spoiling Half Life 2 for me, bro. >: (Frankly she might not even have that big of a role in the game as she has some coping with her fathers death to do.

No one knows how big of a role Alyx will play, granted there is no info on it.Looks horrible.

G-man is simply looking over Alyx.
If you analyze it, you will notice The Ship at the upper right corner, lol...
Harsh criticism? I've Seen worst bud, but this is fan made with limited resources.
I do admire the feedback, however I can go one step further for a more convincing cover by using my tablet to generate infinite resources with my own creations. I must say, my morning was marvelous nevertheless!
Man, I thought this was gonna be like, new news and a huge reveal on the cover art. Sigh...
Oh well. Looks nice for amatuer. :)
Sorry, but from a graphic design point of view its bad. The type looks terrible and the layout is a mess!
@ OoSuperMarioO
I will give you some constructive criticism
1) From a designers point of view the colours you picked are to dark so nothing will draw peoples eyes to the cover.
2) To many flat layers.
3) To much white space, even though it has a basic art background its nothing that a viewer would really go "oh look i know that" as its to basic.
4) The HL2 logo and the G-man wouldn't be in front, behind or anywhere near the title that would some how distract the viewer from viewing it or recognising it.
5) The overall feel of the cover is to COLD blue and black are dark colours and give viewers feelings, just like red is hot, etc maybe check out a colour wheel ( handy link ) oh and about the blue colour being cold, just looked at Alyxs face kinda explains it :P
I know your just making fan art but if you want to make good concepts and develop your skills you need to understand and learn from these and other criticisms
And I thought it was official :(
Looks good for a fan made though. I don't really expect much, not trying to me offensive but I didn't find Valve's games to have good box art.
This is great criticism and I agree with what you pointed out. There are room for improvements specifically transitioning my more traditional skills with physical tools like pens, pencils ect. into the digital art medium, but I am enjoying the thrills from the challenges, lol...@ OoSuperMarioO

From a designers point of view, its pretty bad. Here are some pointers both positive and negative.
Also worth nothing that Alex looks horrible and it doesn't even come close to passing for snow.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm curious, do you have any work you can share bud? From a designers point of view, its pretty bad. Here are some pointers both positive and negative.
- Color's contrast is ok, not the best but it's subpar. Not including the "Episode 3"
- Way too cluttered, the image is too busy and you just threw in a ton of different elements. G-Man was pointless to put in there, it just makes it look more messy.
- No focus - You don't really have a central component, arguabally it could be Alex, however she is not too small, too dull and due to being of a low opacity she blends in to much thus cannot be the central focus (Even if it were your intention)
- The "Episode 3" Text Is Not Distinguished - This should definitely be at the forefront and clearly distunguishble from the background without having to look, it should not be blending in on the side.
Also worth nothing that Alex looks horrible and it doesn't even come close to passing for snow.

Utilizing state of the art computer graphic editing software I have developed and designed inuitive and industry leading designs.
My specialty is game cover art and promotion since gaming is a passion of mine that I have held for years, it is just a part of who I am.
On this particular piece I used my $400US tablet to do a detailed sketch of Alex as the main focus of the piece with an accompanying text
that is not only visually appealing but also catchs the eye of the viewer.

It's easier said then done. Thanks for the feedback, nevertheless.
Here you go champ, only because you requested them. If you are going to "critique" me on them , please right click and go view image to see the non-scaled down versions.
Few commision web design projects (Not the final revisions though)
Helping a friend with the graphic design advertising some items within a virtual world
*I understand that the one below could use with a bit of brightening on the main focus object*

You used/described elements that are excersied in advance, making me intrigued. I look forward to the work. No, I'm uploading my actual work right now, however you still didn't answer me as to why you didnt' ask the other designers for their work.

Any work with physical tools? No, I'm not an artist and evidently from the piece you have shown neither are you. How is photo manipulation/editing that you have just shown, work with physical tools. When I provided you with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, I never referenced anything relating to drawing.[QUOTE="spanK__"]
Posted, look forward to your critiques and feedback.

When I provided you with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, I never referenced anything relating to drawing.I'm currently moving into digital art, as I worked with more physical tools throughout my years in the arts. I started this year with tablet, and photoshop, so certainly there's a learning curve. The elements you described earlier I can indeed relevate due to I've exercise a lot it with tools that I have become accustomed too. However, it seems you are angry that I asked to see your work, lol... I will post my work up in a sec.[QUOTE="spanK__"]
