I have a new laptop and I tried installing halo 2 for vista. I'll run through the specs of my laptop {though I'm certain they are sufficient to run Halo 2}, and then I'll explain the problem in more detail.

AMD Turion X2 TL-58@ 1.9GHz per core

2GB DDR 2 RAM

Nvidia 7000M turbo cache 752MB

160GB HDD {5400 RPM}

DVD Super Multi double layer {52X}

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS

Anyway, I got this game a few days ago and it went through the installation phase w/o error. Then when you are about to play the game 1. The screen goes black and crashes. 2.The sceen resolution reverts to 1024*768 3. The error wizard by microsoft comes up telling you to update XBOX gaming live and finally an error message pops up telling you that there are 'missing or damaged files' present on the Halo 2 DVD. I am getting really fed up trying to resolve this and I have been to the microsoft tech support site and to many other gaming sites to no avail. It could be a direct X problem but I highly doubt. There are no scratches present on the DVD but my instinct does tell me that it is a Microsoft- related problem. i.e they were the ones who didn't put in all the files on the DVD. I am having no problems with games by other companies like EA and COD 3 and so on, although I am also having some installation problems with another product of Microsoft, namely FSX Deluxe edition. Once again, any help that can help me get the game up and running will be greatly appreciated but if all else fails I will have to return it. Best wishes for the holiday season:)

Take Halo2 back, it looks and plays like a 3 year old console game, there are far better games for PC.

But if you really do want to play it for some reason, then you need a new computer. The Nvidia Geforce 7000M GPU that you said your machine has is a Geforce 7 series card and doesn't support DirectX 10, Halo 2 is DirectX 10 only, end of story I'm afraid.

Take it back, get something better like COD 4, I'd give Crysis a miss if I was you though as it won't be very playable on that system, and it's boring even on the highest.

Have fun

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I can't return the game as there is a huge message right in front the store saying that returns can only be made so long as there is a problem with the disc and since there is no problem with it, it looks like I'm stuck with it.

Halo 2 can be a very enjoyable game on the pc, and it IS NOT DIRECTX 10 ONLY. ITS VISTA ONLY. Halo 2 has 0 directx10 features.

Try doing manual updates on Gmes for Windows Website http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Support/live/Pages/default.aspx

i can't believe your listening to this BULL.. even on the box for HALO2 it says Nvidia 6000 series cards and up , so the 7000 series will be fine. processor says 2gig. but a 1.9 should do it , it requires windows vista , unless your a pirater and they have XP cracks.. but direct X10 was not even around when this game was made. this game was made for XBOX and is not a PC hog.. the grafix are a tad better than HALO 1 , but still directX9.0c ,, i suggest you put the entire error message in the google.com search bar and you'll find your answer on the microsoft support forums. always get a second opinion from a true gamer , not a weekend warrior.

although some small truth in that the GPU he has is a MOBILE chipset, they never perform as well as their standalone counterparts...

but if it was me, I borrow a friends copy of H2, just to make sure your disc is not a bad stamp (how discs are made) with undreadable data, and install it on your computer with YOUR KEY.

Or download one (copy of game), not illegal since you have a licensed copy in your possession, the d/l copy would be nothing more than a backup, so long as you use your key and only install it on one computer.

Although judging by the age of this thread, you probably have solved by now...
