My friend wanted to know if he was to buy the first halo or second if the controller would work with it, and if the controller would work on vista.  Can someone tell me if it works?

Halo PC will work on a computer that supports it. I don't know if vista supports Halo PC or not. You can use the xbox 360 wired controller to play or the wireless one and one of those special adapters for your pc(plugs into usb) that will find the signal. I do not think vista supports old driver games such as Halo PC, but you can tell your friend when Halo 2 comes out for PC his combination will work.

M$ has been saying that the game will be compatible with the 360 controller.

Why anyone would want to play using it is another matter...

It should work. Just make sure you have the proper drivers for the controller installed. I'm not positive that Halo will work on Vista, but chances are that it does.

I know with Halo 2 it will work and you can plug the controller anytime and continue playing.

being able to play with a controller on a 360 and a computer are two completely different scenarios. using a 360 controller on a pc is near impossible because there is no auto aim.

The controller will work simple as that. They did confirm that you can plug your 360 controller in anytime and continue playing. There are many peopel that actually prefer playing with a controller over a mouse and keyboard.

have you ever tried using your 360 controller with a pc? I have, near impossible. I tried playing FEAR, wow couldn't aim for $hit and I am a pretty good player with a controller.

I guess FPS is the only games that exist and those games were not made for controllers could be the problem. Try playign Fifa with your mouse and keynboard and tell me how it works. Halo 2 is optimized for both hence you can use either. It's all about what you prefer.

The OP asked a very specific question yet all these M&K groupies responding.

people still play sports games on there computers? ow and this is going to be funny with what they do with halo 2 for pc because if they only give people with controllers Auto aim then there is going to be alot of angry people.

I use a saitek dual analog gamepad to play shooters like half life deathmatch and BF2 online and I always come out on top. I also play MMOs using a gamepad, I have carpal tunnel and I've learned to be equal to any mouse and keybaord user so don't bash gamepads!

In answer to your question: The wireless version of the 360 controller I bought and tried on my vista PC and it couldn't connect, I returned it for cash. The wired one might work.
