I've played them both, albeit a long time ago. I think my consensus was that DR2 didn't play as well as as DR, nor was it as unique, and I think it felt closer to a standard RTS game. If it's cheap I guess you could pick it up. Don't take my word for it though. I played them a long time ago.
I recall DR being a decent game. I remember harvesting water as a resource and using many fighters. I recall that the AI was fairly decent in that game.
