Has blizzard lost its touch?

we all know that blizzard is and always has been the undisputed king of trailers/cinematics/cutscenes and all the things that absolutely make you wish you had their new game....but with the announcement of their new wow expansion "Wrath of the lich king" and the trailer for it was god damned awful....seriously it felt medicore and crap on so many lvls.

I am not one to **** about....but I loved watching the new blizzard trailers....but this one just sucked imo

It had a good CGI trailer when it was announced...it showed the trailer to the TBC.....even all the other ingame cutscenes to promote dungeons pwned....this one simply sucked....and seriously who uses the feature of "More dances" to sell a game...seriously.Hani_Essa

yeah, wtf is up with them trying to sell an expansion based on more DANCES? WHO CARES? It seems lame that they are only introducing 1 hero class in the expansion. I don't get why there aren't more races or classes being added either? A dissapointing announcement fo shure.

Maybe they're getting greedy, and soon they'll be the ones that have a bad rep of putting out boring sequel after sequel. I sure hope that doesn't happen.

And I also don't play WoW. For very obvious reasons.

Its possible that Blizzard has lost its touch with the dissapointing announcement of the WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. But they made it up when they shown more of Starcraft II.

By the looks of it, Blizzard is focusing more on the high-level characters in the WoW expansion, at least The Burning Crusade had some things for low-level characters. But in this new expansion, there is little to nothing for low-level players like myself.

I don't mind if Blizzard makes new content for high-level characters, but I want low-level characters to have something too. Keep a balance between both.

Either way, I'm still going to buy the new expansion. I hope Blizzard doesn't make WoW into Everquest, were expansions are released every 6 months. In my opinion, that is what killed Everquest, having to pay $30 or so every 6 months in order to keep up with other players.

Looks like another expansion to try and keep people playing the abomination that is World of Warcraft. I hate WoW but i've always liked the cinematics in their trailers, and after watching the newest one i have come to the conclusion they must be struggling with ideas for this franchise. Not one decent cinematic (infact i can't recall seeing an actual CGI cinematic at all!?!) and not much of a trailer. The "New Dances" piece made me actually "lol" it was so uncalled for really, to use new dance moves as a selling point for a fantasy MMORPG just seems....so low. Because seriously unless the new dances are like, break dancing or something i can't see why they would add it. The dancing in WoW sucks anyway, just go youtube it and i'm sure there will be a scantly clad female night elf video posted by someone.

Another thing with the expansion is the graphics, again still cartoonish/card like in appearance. When will they decide to update the engine/graphics? i mean if WoW had Oblivion style graphics i'd understand why people pay whatever the ridiculous price per month is. But the graphics aren't like Oblivion, their far worse and in this day and age with such games like Crysis and Bioshock and Stranglehold etc theres no excuse for not updating them.

Now i know a lot of people will probably disagree with me over my views on WoW, so in the words of Johnny "The Human Torch" Storm....."Flame on!"

WoW is an MMO so it couldnt get gfx like oblivions, apart from that i agree with every point u made.

there was i couple things in the press conference that i thought was cool like voice chat but the expansion just really just appeals to the hardcore wow audience but for the casual player like me its just not appealing but it sucks cause more than half of the players who play WoW are really hardcore and cause they make up most of the population of azeroth and thats who they're focusing on, cause blizzard is a whore, they fill there pants with pudding and parade around the street

I don't think they were even going to announce the expansion this weekend but after the leaks in germany and at the trademark office thing, they felt they had to put at least something together for the fan people. and as such, they didn;t have the time to put together an amazing cinematic.headache975

After 10 years between SC and SC2 it doesnt seem like they would have a hard time holding back for a few days. Overall: Sloppy preformance from a money hungry beast. I don't play WoW anymore, but it seems like the player base would be throwing a fit over only 1 hero class.

One hero class is simply unacceptable. I was thinking of activating my account again if my kick ass hunter could attain hero status, but nope. I could log on for the new dances though. For Blizzard not to program the flying mounts into the rest of the world seems lazy because they are making how much money off this cash cow? I never thought I would be dissapointed over a Blizzard aanouncement! EVER. : )

It takes a long time to make a greatly-detailed CGI trailer. I think it took Blizzard 6 to 12 months to make the Starcraft II cinematic trailer. Here is a question on the Wrath of the Lich King FAQ:

Yes, our cinematics department is hard at work preparing a new intro movie for the expansion.

They can't show off a CGI trailer because they don't even have it finished yet. I would rather see a perfectly-detailed cinematic trailer then a half-way completed one.

I'm a blizzard fan but not a WoW fan & since they got into the MMO buisness they became laizy & they are running out of ideeas since Warcraft 3 think about it Arthas & Keerigan are practacaly the same deal they both were reborned as undead/zerg & the zerg is something like the undead but with out the selfbuid technology but that ideeas is in the protost + Starcraft to may still have the same spark inside but from a gameplay standpoint its nothing new !beckoflight

I couldn't agree with you more man. I was sorely disappointed in WC3, because of all the things you just stated. It's just SC in swords and sorcery setting.

I have to say im surprised that some of ya actually compared this to one of their cinematic trailers. This was an introduction type deal, which we've all seen plenty of if you still play (because they add a new gameplay like cinematic to every big patch like the recent black temple) The game will have a cinematic trailer just give them time, theyve had cinematics in every warcraft game so why would they stop now? just read the faq on their website

Ill admit the dancing thing is kind of weird, but new instances a new zone a new profession and new hero class all sound great cause I like the game. I like to play when i get home from college and work to kill time after a long day and chat with friends askin them about their days and then kickin it in some instances.

Erm , if you have followed WoW ... then you know that thier Content trailers are always ingame .... TBC's CGI trailer was not finished when TBC was announced ... it was shown just before release.

All other trailers (BWL , Naxx , BC ) were shown like this.

I still think that blizzard shouldn't have released an ingame trailer cause the graphics are laughable at best since the game was released 3 years ago...it really wouldn't kill them to update the graphics engine..the_ChEeSe_mAn2

I didn't mention Diablo in my post because, well lets face it how long has it been since Diablo 2 was released?...and no sign of a sequel? I've given up hope on a Diablo 3.The franchise is pretty much dead if you ask me.

Blizzard has some of the best CGI I've ever seen, in or out of a game. I think this trailer was just an indication of the features for this newly announced expansion. I'm sure there's some proper CGI on the way.

Im a noob to WoW only started last month, already lvl 31. But Blizzard are quite desperate to keep the WoW franchise going because they're making absolutly millions every month, I wouldn't complain lol.

oh mate but I do follow wow....probably more seriously than you do since I am a direct result of why 7 of my RL friends are hopelessly addicted to it...I used to play it for fun until a few weeks after the expansion when I simply gave up..But I am coming back to see what arthas is like...he looks kinda crap now imo

i was waiting for this blizzcon event for a very long time now just to see one thing or at least a hint of warcraft4. seriously i was so much hoping for it but then agian u will never be able to predict what blizzard is upto next. anyways i wanted to see wat this new expansion of wow had to offer and guess wat i totaly **** myself, the trailer looks extremely immature and wats up with arthas. i was hoping to see him as this powerful being who would destroy anythin in its path but no. u see the same thing u saw in WC3 TFT. and wats up with tht stupid death knight hero class. i mean its not bad but y only one class. y arent they introducing some new races like naga or those pandas.

Just like how blood elves got announced before the new alliance race did, you can't announce something that its ready to be announced. If something is barely functional would you announce it at blizz con? Basically blizzard had to say something about WoW at their own event and this is what they could give you at the time.
