This is a legit question. I owned CoD4, WaW, MW2, and then stopped. Didnt wanna buy another again. I loved CoD4 and WaW - so much fun and great for PC Gaming. Then I got MW2 and I think I sunk about 135 hours into it. Really liked the multiplayer for a while and the SP was actually pretty decent but then...I just stopped playing. Couldnt really have fun anymore. Now I see BOPs and I think its pretty slick and I feel like alot was fixed but then I see something else. That its actually been riddled with problems. All this bad publicity about one problem after another...I think its finally losing steam. I mean even on Steam stats its falling - along with all the other CoDs. CSS took back its throne and I thought it had finally gone under. I mean its just my thoughts but after getting over my lust for the game I realized I want more substance and that CoD never really cut it.

Games like SC2 and Civ and other games with actual richness of content and polish are what keep you playing. I mean SC2 calms my desire for other games when I play it. Thaaats quality. lol I dont know if that sounds weird for you but its rare when a games makes me feel like I dont need anything else. I mean I dont ALWAYS wanna play RTS but it does keep me in the RTS mood. lol anyway, I was gonna speak more about how CoD is going wrong and out but Ill leave it for later.

I will say that all these companies gearing up for the kill. Id understand if BlackOPs was just having probs on PC cuz they screw us over most times anyway but on PS3 too? Epic fail.

So far I find myself liking Black Ops online more than MW2. Better maps, dedicated servers are back, more balanced perks and kill-streaks don't stack on top of each other. I think it is a great game overally.

Ya not deny that at all but what of the future? I dont think its gonna have much gas left after this. MW is going to be handed over to a new company and IW is dust (which I could care less about - good ridden) but I think everyone else is realizing how the games is basically just a milkfest now. That quality is being sacrificed.

It fell with the release of Call of Duty 3, because they added pretty much nothing to the gameplay formula with this, and with the rest of the series. 2 games is more than enough.

I got Black Ops some days ago on the 360, so far I'm liking it more than MW2, MW, WaW and even COD2 (Never played 3). It's also a very complete game, a decent campaign, a great MP mode, Nazi Zombies, Dead Ops Arcade and Zork.

But Activision is going to keep milking the franchise until it dies. Sadly.

I agree.

One of the things that separated the original Call of Duty from the Medal of Honor series was that you weren't playing a lone gunman having a stroll through Germany, and winning the war as a one man army. Call of Duty put emphasis into making you feel like part of a squad, and it was believable.

The latest releases have gone into that pretentious, over the top territory. Throw in some explosions, slow mo stunts and betrayal, and you have another best seller. The multiplayer may be fun, but there doesn't seem to be much beyond that.

The latest releases still rip off every war movie ever made. That's what CoD was always about:P

It's been a milk-fest since the conception of Call of Duty 1. There's been a new Call of Duty game ever year since the first one came out.

Call of Duty (2003)
Call of Duty: UO (2004)
Call of Duty 2 (2005)
Call of Duty 3 (2006)
Call of Duty 4 (2007)
Call of Duty: World at War (2008 )
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010)

Plus, don't forget the spin-offs.

Apparently I'm the only person smart enough to realize this.

i bow to you.

anyway, i stopped playing them after the first MW. nothing to see there anymore.

e: the series is far from fallen, though. it's a money maker, so the milking continues. let's see for how long, since the original talent at Infinity Ward is now gone.

I am really enjoying Blck Ops, I dont really care for the campaign but the multiplayer is VERY fun.

Also, I will VERY happily pay £40 a year for a slighlty improved version of a game that I will sink hundreds of hours into,,,thats still great value!

You could just, like, stick with the earlier game because it's essentially the same thing, so you can continue sinking hundreds of hours into it.

Yes, I could, there would be nothing wrong with that. But after playing a game for a year the prospect of having new maps, new weapons, new kill streaks, new campaign, new features like dedicated servers and such is very tempting and worth the price of entry providing you REALLY like the game.

Black Ops is the best in the series yet. Haters gonna' hate. It sucks that some people are STILL having major problems with it, though.

But I am me and not anyone else. And actually, if I had a video game company, I would be all about quality over quantity, so I would do my best to not exploit each and every franchise to the point of demise.

This. As long as people don't mind paying for play the same thing each year then I doubt CoD will die.

True. Come to think of it, there isn't that much COD formula can be improved on. Black Ops already got one of the best COD campaigns and the deepest multiplayer of the series. I guess MW3 will have to be super spectacular to warrant a purchase.

Well, count me as one MW2 fan who probably won't buy another Call of Duty title. And I can't be the only one. Blops is pretty good, but there is NO excuse for such a huge title running on ancient tech to have as many issues as it does. I enjoyed CoD 3 and W@W and was a supporter of Treyarch, but it appears they're just not a top tier dev company... I don't think they're good enough to be the main CoD developer, anyway.

I liked BO, I had some stutter here and there (Mostly right at the start of a match). However, the community killed it for me. After getting banned from my 5th server for "hacking," I finally just gave up and went back to BC2 which will hold me until RO2.

What happened is that they added stuff until the last minute and there was absolutely no time to test it except for the closed Xbox beta. The SP testing was outsourced lol. Blame Activision.

I loved COD1 and COD2... hated cod3... thoguth cod4 was ok... thought WAW was ok to.. and thought Modern Warfare2 was terrible.

But then Black Ops I have really enjoyed, seems like they actaulyl listened to the fans this time. The mutlplayer is much mroe balanced and I like the level design alot more (having lean back and dedicated servers is nice to).

So for me Call Of Duty fell down hard with Modern Warfare2, but then got back on there feet with Black Ops.

The campaign is your typical COD stuff, but the multiplayer is where this game jsut pimp slaps Modern Warfare2 across the face.

Black Ops is a buggy mess. Badly optimised, pings hardly under 50. Thats just the MP. The Sp is very standard. The story is convoluted but it just feels in need of an overhaul. Like a lot of the fundamental problems of the series are more visible here. Respawning enemies (which I think they fixed in MW2), 1 man army feel. MW1/2 had a much stronger campaign because of the set pieces. Adding to this is the constant stuttering. Its the buggiest COD game yet. What a shame.

Modern Warfare 2 would be the awesome if knifing had no aim assist on consoles and lunge was shortened. Black Ops still has overpowered guns though.

Wierd, ive never been kicked out of servers for hacking. Find a few godo servers and put em on yoru favorite lists. Servers that dont kick you for silly reasons, problem solved.

I have gotten kicked out of 2 hardcore servers but that was because i did 3 team kills by mistake with my claymore and greande:P

Wierd, I get much better pings in Black Ops then I did in Modern Warfare2 or COD4.

Tons of servers with ping frmo 30-75 for me here in Canada.

Where do you live? maybe there are just not many dedicated servers up in your country?

Was COD 3 released for the PC? I must admit I stopped playing it after MW and then only played that a bit much Preferred the team work e.t.c of BF2 in multi player. I found it to be shootfest. When MW2 was released with no Mod support and dedicated servers it became a true console port.

No. But you really don't want to play it anyway. It wasn't that great.
