yea thats a little weird :s maybe you'll have to buy it through steamdoes that mean that if i want to get hl2 episode 2 i need to get hl2 and episode 1? if so thats a bit of a joke i already have them 2 i dont want to pay for them again.
orange box is the 1 with all the games black box is just episode 2

Well, the other option you have is buying it through Steam, I know it sucks, But if you want to buy the retail version you will have to bu the orange box wich contains hl2,hl2 ep1, portal and TF2
i REALLY hate what valve is doing, they just want to make money as quicky as possible, that`s why they are doing half life now in episodes and thats why the cancelled the black boxquakeknight1991
Ya shame on Valve for wanting to make money
19 dollars for 5 hours of amazing gameplay is money well spent, especially considering that many other full games dont last much longer. Gears of War costs about 60 dollars and I finished it in about 10 hours, same with Quake 4, FEAR, and others.
Its just time to embrace Steam, and I think the Orange Box is really more for console owners to be honest than it is for PC owners. So just put whatever bias you have about paying for a digital copy of a game and use the wonderful program that is steam.
And atleast we are getting a great expansion bundled with two amazing mods, Portal and TF2. They could just halflass like EA and give us some stupid "booster pack".

Still man you have to at least say that it is pretty lame.. They are forcing people who do not wish to buy it/download on line for multiple legit reasons, to pay $50 for products they already have for some who just want the Episode 2 content..
Now I am definitly going to buy it from online like many other people, but I can see quite a few people getting angry over this.

You are an idiot, name another company that always packages 3 games into one for the price you usually pay for 1 game? Good god what ignorance. Valves offers more content with their packages then almost any other developer.

Thats not the point, many people are not interested in the other things other then episode 2, and judging from episode 1 then the price is a lot for just that one thing.

Idiot. See Ultimate Quake, it gives you in 1 package 4 games, Quake 1, quake 2, quake 3 and quake 4 and also its expansions, and you are also an idiot cuz i just said my opinion and just cuz of this you insult me,lame. Get a life idiot. And they dont give more content, they just give packages with games that everyone already has and they make you buythe package just to get one game(ep2), also lame. It seems that everyone here is a Valve fanboyÂ

I agree with everything except the buying from Steam part, since Steam is so crappy I can't always buy games from there. Just as a hint for Valve, maybe you should actually get your digital content delivery system up and working for EVERYBODY before you start forcing people to use it... But it makes no difference, I'll still buy the boxed copy since I want to get something physical in my hands in exchange for parting with my money. Plus I like collecting box art.Â

Man Gears of war at least offers you some next gen gameplay with some AMAZING graphics and some amazing multiplayer. And half life 2 just offers you the same old source engine. Quake 4 atleast offers you much more visceral action and also has the amazing classic multiplayer gameplay of Quake 3. Fear is with doom 3 the game with best atmosphere and also has an amazing gameplay,

Theyre not forcing anything, we still have a choice whether we want to buy it or not.
As for Steam, I think anything Valve can do to promote its use is good. PC gaming needs to cut out the middleman. Dont we all dream of a day where we get games directly from developers, and a world where there is no EA, Ubisoft, etc
::EDIT::
I realize this sounds a little arrogent, but we live in a world where (im just guessing) 99% of PC gamers have internet access, and 80% of them have broadband in some form. Steam just isnt an unreasonable option any more; it works well, its cheaper than the store, and its convenient (preload before a release, or start a download before you go to sleep and wake up and play in a few hours).
Also, is episode 2 going to be bundled only in an Orange Box, or will they also have an only Episode 2 box as well. I know it hasnt been announced yet, but I think Valve is smart enough to know that most people already own HL2 and dont need it again so they will offer only Episode 2 in box.

Well, they are a for-profit company. And as we've seen from the HL:2 development saga, Gabe (CEO) is a lyer (seriously - look into it - he is VERY dishonest with his fans). I don't believe a thing from Valve until I see it. Not that they always fail to deliver, but they failed enough that I take their Press Releases with a Bag of Rolds Golds.Â

Digital Downloads are the future for two major reasons:
1. It allows devs to horde a MUCH larger share of the revenue
2. Consumers will slowly embrace it and eventually demand it.
Â
Valve is forcing people to move to its Steam platform because, asside from the direct increase in profits, having Steam installed provides a way to advertise all kinds of games to the client, and every one that sells makes Valve some money.
It's a great strategy, and not at all unfair - PC gaming is bleeding-edge technology. and digitial downloads are the future. Valve is just nudging us forward, for our benefit as well as theirs.

Yes its a great strategy for them as a company, but me as the consumer aint gonna buy games trough digital downloads, i want a hard copy and if a game is not released in that way then i wont be buying it no matter how good the game is. I like to have it as a collection, its just not the same when you just download it to your harddrive.
I am sorry but I cant help but laugh at the hipocrisy here.
Here we are, PC gamers; we spend our hard-earned money for the latest computer technology. Video cards, excessive amounts of memory, hundreds of gigabytes of storage space, expensive broadband internet...the list goes on. While the rest of the world is content with their 400 dollar "typewriters", we are constantly at the forefront of the newest technology, always keeping up to date with technology, drivers, patches, and the latest games and modifications.
Yet when it comes to the simple act of using our credit cards online (which millions do every day, be it ebay or Steam) and spending a few hours to download a game, we (I mean you actually) start to complain. I just dont see the basis for your arguments. If youre 11 years old and you dont have a credit card, you might have an argument but thats why you just give your parents your Christmas money or a few weeks of allowence to purchase it for you. other than that, I really dont see the big deal.
For 20 dollars and a few hours use of technology you problably have, you can easily get Episode 2 and TF2 and Portal. Is that really so bad? I understand if you would rather have a physical copy, but every good thing requires a sacrifice, and giving up a CD with a game on it is a small thing to give up for the good thing that is Steam.
To sum up, I guess I am trying to say that Steam is a completely reasonable option to purchase and obtain games.

OOH, than valve isnt a true pc game developer as they are using a really old engine (source engine) when there are already much more advanced engines as cryengine 2 or unreal engine 3.
Now seriously, i hate spending money on hardware really i just spent money on hardware if it necessary and thats why i am playing latlely my xbox 360

yeah I am not personally bothered by this, but a great deal of people do not feel safe with using their credit cards or debit cards on steam.. Specially with the recent supposed hack in it.. All I am saying is I would like to see a choice, and not every one has broad band, alot of people have a very slow dsl..   I am not AGAINSt steam what so ever I love steam, I just wish they gave people a choice, because at this time they are forcing people to rebuy HL2 and episode one, now if they said the black box is coming out for $50 then I would say Hey! free things, but every one was looking at it for selling for $20 to $30, even then we had people griping about it.
People seem to be oversimplifying the issue to believe that people who refuse to buy it is because they do not have broad band..Â
Why couldn't they just have made a game of the year edition like package that included everything then just a black box?

Alot of times with games such as Direct2Drive, the install they give you can be burned to CD.. Though I do not think this is possible for Steam.
Cancelling the Black Box is a bad decision by Valve towards the consumers that have made them what they are now. Anyone following the PC version of EP2 is doing so because they have already bought atleast HL2 if not EP1 as well. Then Valve's comment on it - that you can just give your 2nd copies of HL2 and EP1 away to friends just takes the piss - buy it from us again so you can give it away. NO. If you want to give it away free then be my guest, don't expect me to pay for it to then give it away.
If Valve really wanted to force PC customers to buy through Steam why even bother to put the Orange box in shops?

Oh man you just listed the two guys that I hate the most.
Here I am, working my way through college making 9 bucks an hour in a hot kitchen with a 4 foot 8 inch Italian boss that constantly bites my ankles, while Emeril is doing toothpaste commercials and Bobby Flay is acting as arrogent as ever on Iron Chef and that stupid Cook Off show...and dont even get me started on Rachel Ray *shakes with rage*
You want a real cook to watch and read about, go get Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain...that thing will blow your mind.
