I am wondering how many people are wearing glasses because of gaming, I sure do.

I heard that PC gaming might make some ppl develop the bad habit of not turning your head to the side, something important for things like driving cars.I am wondering how many people are wearing glasses because of gaming, I sure do.

I have glasses, but I started wearing them maybe 2 years before I started PC gaming( 2 years ago :P)
I should probably wear them more often, but I never do :P

I dont think its just gaming but rather how long you stare at a monitor throughout your days doing whatever. My vision was good but now its not that good. I can still see fine but things are blurry sometimes. some people are not affected, some are. I on the other hand, am in front of a monitor alot. Between home and the office, im staring at a monitor almost 24/7.
Sure has, when ever I enter a room I instantly look at my exits, if there is any ammunition laying around... med packs, andwhat is the most danagerous object in the room.sSubZerOoHmm... sounds like PC gaming actually benefits your eyesight!

Yeah it has, that's why I'm looking to get an Xbox 360 some time next month so I can do some gaming from a distance :)
After arguing with my mom i googled it and found alot of sites that say it's not bad it can only strain your eyes if you stare for too long (which can't make you have worse eyesight). They even had tests where they had people who never played games before and gave them an eyesight check and then let them play some fps and 3rd person shooters and they accualy slightly improved.:P
But i went from 20/20 to i think they said 18/16 lol.
I'v have always had 20/20 vision however i've always had a problem being in brightly lit rooms or being out in the sun or snow (snow reflects light upwards). This is because i suffer from Photophobia, thats what the doctor said, its basically a strong aversion to bright light from any source. And its a side effect from suffering with hereditory migraines which can be started by looking towards bright or flashing lights. When i look at a bright light my eyes hurt and my vision blurs which forcces me to look away or close my eyes entirely till it stops.
Ever since then i've always worn sunglasses when out in the sun and always look down when i enter a room so my eyes adjust better to difference in brightness between rooms. However the worst thing is being out in snow on sunny or bright days because the snow reflects the light upwards directly into my face which means looking down to avoid the sun is pointless. Usually i wear some ski(sp?) goggles or squint my eyes as much as possible without closing them. It does sound rather laughable doesnt it? but i wouldn't suffer from this aversion to bright light if i didn't suffer from migraines.
On a side note i did read an article recently that monitors can damage or lower the quality of your vision because human eyes are designed better for distance viewing for long periods and close viewing for shorter periods of time. This is apparently because early humans used their eyes mainly for hunting and so would view things at a distance for long periods of time. And only viewed things up close for shorter periods of time, like using tools. However human eyes struggle to look at monitors because they show objects in 3D at very long distances away when the monitor itself is very close, which can confuse your eye and lead to possible damage. I think that explains why some people get sore eyes and have to take a break from their monitors because their eyes are having trouble registering distance of objects.
I've been PC gaming for awhile now, and its been proven that staring at a computer monitor for too long is not good for your eyesight. CRT Monitors are especially bad for your eyes and a LCD monitor is not exactly good for you eyes but its definitely not as bad as an CRT monitor. Also you want to make sure you look around every 30 minutes and get up from the computer and maybe go outside every 2 hours. So I've heard anyways :)
and yes before all the gaming my eyesight 20/20 and now I need my glasses to see clearly, though I don't wear them unless I'm in class or on the computer :) don't like glasses much. But yeah my eyesight is pretty bad these days.
i began gaming at 5, pc gaming at 16 - i'm now 23 and spend seven hours a day in front of a monitor at work and four hours in front of a monitor at home, and my vision is nearly perfect... and when i say nearly, i mean i can't read small lettering at moderate distance, while one of my friends can
i sit close to my monitor and i don't subscribe to that ten minutes an hour BS - it probably has adversely affected my eyes, i'm not deluding myself, but everything is fine for now
