Has there been a DX10 game that has scored below a 9.0 on GS yet?

I was just thinking about it. It seems like all the new games are getting way high scores. Seems like if they include DX10 they are guaranteed to get at least a 9.0.

Seems like until recently getting a 9.0 or higher meant the game was REALLY something special and only come around a few times a year. Now it seems like if a game doesn't get at least a 9.0 it pretty much sucks... The 9.0 is the new 8.0...

Lost Planet and Hellgate London didn't score a 9.0.

Forgot about HGL, well that's one. Still my point is that all the games seem to be getting way high scores. And games that were as good or better for their day a year or two ago didn't get them. Its like it's just become about marketing and they know if they give a game a really high score it will sell better. I'm not saying these games are bad, they just are not as good as their scores compared to other games in the past and the score they got. Here is how I would score the recent blockbusters -

Crysis - 9.3
WiC - 9.0
Bioshock - 8.9
GoW - 8.8
HL2-EP2 (by istelf)- 8.2
Orange Box (Bundle) - 8.6 (because of good value)
The Witcher - 8.2

Woah, didn't even know it had a PC version lol! Or did it just recently get ported?

Honestly I think it's just a wierd coincidence, and the way you scored those games, well, if it wasn't for their stupid new scoring system, a 9 doesn't mean much anymore since you can only go up in .5 increments, and not someone like me who is so anal about things sometimes that even if a game was AMAZING, if it had a single flaw in it, I would give it a 9.9

so if you click my profile and you see a 10, it probably means it was ABOVE 9.5, but I just didn't have the option to pick "9.6"

IMO, the reviewers on gamespot are a little inconcistent, sometimes they love and cherish a game so much, that they ignore all the bad things and just give it a 9 cuz it looks pretty (assasin's creed, then again I don't like kevin or jeffs reviews anyway.)

Then they play a great game and give it so much trouble for 1 minor detail that instead of giving it a "9 point w/e" they give it like, a 7 or under. IGN's reviews IMO are a bit more fair, simply because if a game is overhyped, they won't just tell you what you WANT to hear, they tell the truth damnit! (most of the time, they aren't perfect lol, and I don't think anyone will be. That's just unlikely.)

I just found this, a list of DX10 supported games on Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_10_support

And yes GoW is DX10.

Yup. But the DX10 was in the form of a patch that came way after the first PC launch and after the 360 launch.

I think the number of 9+ games has more to do with the number of high quality games that have come out this year more than it has to do with DX10. Many games have been sitting in development for quite a while that are coming out or have come out this year; Crysis, UT3, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock,HL2: Ep2, and World in Conflictto name a few.

Companies are releasing these games nowin the anticipation that more people would have the hardware necessary to tackle the software (still an optimistic assertion IMO). DX10 is very, VERY slowly becoming a possibility for the average consumer, and even though the technology is only in its infancy its shader quality is truly incredible and boasts a fantastic future.

Besides--for the sake of comparison--how many games came out last year that had the same level of anticipation as games like Crysis? Not nearly as many. This simply seems to be a good year in the PC market (something I am quite thankful for).

Most of the DX10 games coming out have been focused on and worked hard on for a while, thats why lots of them are good. Play lots of these games and they really are great. For instance Orange box, I'm loving it, I completely agree with Jeffs reviews. And remember, the reviews aren't about what YOU think, and the score isn't the thing you should be looking at. The score is limited to games on that platform and that genre. I like PC shooting games, if one PC shooting game has a higher score then the other AND I'm liking the videos and screenshots I'm seeing its a fair assumption that I will prefer that one
