Aren't there any upcoming PC titles you're interested in? And you know....You could always try out console gaming.

one of my uncles died on a motorcycle, and my other uncle shattered his arm, and he has plates now.  i think motorcycles are fun, but the nickname 'murdercycle' really does justice.  just saying i wouldn't waste the time buying a bike imo.  plus, one night stands are really lame, and puts a stereotype out to guys.  there are some really great games out there, i just think cars and women are really expensive compared to video games :P.  just wait until halo 3 comes out if you're a fan of the series, and you'll be sucked back in imo.

My next door neighbor died on a motorcycle, didn't even hit another car, just lost control, fell, and hit his head.

There's no such thing as being a 'gamer', just get that out of your head. Games are extremely deep nowadays compared to hobbies in the olden days, so the fun can seem to last forever, but like anything it gets boring, except for a few people who are just have the type of personality to somehow just keep going on and on with the same damn thing forever. You play it, and have fun, and when it's not fun.. Then it's not fun, oh well, that's one of millions of fun things to do. You can still have fun with it, just not all the time like you may have used to do. Most people ride their bikes for a while, then move on, play pogs for a while, move on.. Pogo stick for a while, move on.. :p Play video games for a while (a lot longer because there are just so many ways to play and so many types), but you still move on.

So, you feel you're growing up, yet you like to go out on weekends pissed (which I seem to recall is British slang for drunk?). Now that doesn't make sense.

Yep thats the Culture here in the UK -.- , Im fine with going out Fri/Sat , but you can tell there something wrong when your friends obsess over the drink, they tell you to "Get some down you" because I dont drink 2 pints every 15 mins or something >>

Woman never get old, but drinking down your locals or even close-by city bars will become just the same for you as gaming does, everything does eventually.

Most gamers are in the 25-35 age range.  Since you didn't mention your age I'm going to guess you're only about 20.  Going out every weekend is fun, but that too gets old.

You know, I stop looking at women face after a while. BTW, as a kid you tend to be more imaginative. When you grow up, a simple game can no longer satisfy you, because you will say that story is retarded.

Firstly, why does everyone seem to think gaming is a childish thing to do and therefore when they stop playing label it as "growing up"? Thats silly, and to re-apply wha t someone said, i dont think you have "grown up" due to what your current 'hobbies' are. You might want to repost later stating when you have "grown up" in terms of one night stands and getting pissed all the time....as there is more cause for concern there. Im not being a bastar* but i felt had to be said.

As for gaming, you get tired now and again. I got bored of consoles even with my amazing 360 setup, and strayed towards PC gaming for ages. Then GOW came out and ill always remember it for being the game that brought me back into console gaming. Thanks to epic for that :D

When you get older, priorities change in terms of what you spend your money on, and this is acceptable. However you shouldn't give up on your true love of gaming because of it...it just takes longer for you to buy that special game you wanted....but just take a break and you'll soon come back to it when a game of interest launches :D

Some suprising insight from the gamespot community about life. To add my 2-cents I would say, I have left video gaming behind for years at a time to pursue relationhips with girls and other activites/hobbies, I just "let it go". But much like a good friend, I always find myself coming back to gaming at some point. Gaming may bore you at times like anything else, but it never hurts you.

Unlike a lot of other hobbies, it can even be considered cheap when you rent, buy used software, or download games. If you are let down by a girl, or a situation, its amazing how video games can often take you away from the negative feelings without getting you into even worse trouble.

You may want to try a totally different kind of game. Some years I wont touch anything but RPG. Other times, only Simulations or Stragegy games hold my interest. When I am single, I prefer PC gaming because its more involving.

I went through the same thing a while back. IMO you should completely stop buying new games, going on gaming forums and news sites for a few months. Take a break for a while and only play games if you really want to, not just out of habit. Once playing games becomes a habit imo, they stop being fun.

Try and stick with it and you might find that you become interested in games again, like what happened in my case.

I became obsessed with buying all the high scoring, must haves games. Instead of actually enjoying them I found myself just wanting to get to the credits. Soon i had a huge back catalog with little time or motivation to play them. Eventually enough was enough and I decided to go coldturkey for a while and sell all the games that i didnt really want to play, leaving my collection much smaller but also much more focused. Ive proabaly wasted hundereds but im much happier now.

All i play anymore is counter-strike and my DS since they have lots of replay value and they are just plain fun. Im not interested in buying a ps3, 360, of wii because I know that i'll want to start buying all its "must have games" simply because everyone says so and end up back where i started. :)

It certainly doesn't make sense, but unfortunately, it feels that about 95% of all teenagers and young adults in the UK want to be in that cool club, and look down on you like some kind of freak if you don't jump on the bandwagon.

Yup, I went through the same thing when I got to Uni.  Other things just take presidence over games you just lose interest in playing that much of them.  It's good in a way because you go out more.  Personally, I enjoy my time more this way because now I only go out and buy games that I am hyped up about and don't build up a collection of games you pay full price for then play once.

I agree totally with all you said and have some advices as well, but first:

You are so right about the PC Upgrades. It is an expensive and to be honest, money waste, even for the ones that can afford it. Because paying so much money to spend it in ways that only do more harm than good (destroying your eyes, giving headaches and so forth) and paying a fortune for it, is called a waste of money. Also, the prices are way overrated of those products.

Games all being the same these days. You are right but here I want to add something. Me for example, my job gives me lots of free time and I earn good. However, I spend money only on games such as for example a Command and Conquer 3 because I like strategy games and am a fan of that game. Now, I will definitely buy Crysis and the HL2 Episode 2. What I stopped wasting money on are games like STALKER, or Ghost Recon, other weird games that were just made to spend a few bucks and then throw it in the trash or waste time and energy reselling it on ebay (these days I'd rather throw it in the trash, sorry if I seem arrogant but I dealt with so many crackos on ebay, I'd rather just throw it in the trash). So, result. I buy a game once every 3 months. I am happy about that.

Console Gaming these days I do not recommend. The games are all the same, copies of a previous game for a previous console with boosted up graphics. Games are too expensive, unless you get them in the shadow places, up to you really, but it is also a waste of money. I got an XBOX and every 6 months I play a few levels again from Halo 1 and 2 and that is it. I am ready to sell this one tho because I can make over 100$ with all the games on that one and that's another two great dinners with my girl (if she doesn't insist to pay all the time).

About you getting loaded with beers on the weekends is ok. It is your culture. Ignore the 12 year olds here or church freaks that think because they live a life with no alcohol they are better than everybody else (American reaility, I am sorry and want to apologize for the few of us that are not like that), it comes from the old days, I know the history behind it, at least you guys behave yourselfs and not like most of the people here that start puking around in the clubs, screaming and disrespecting others and acting like the club is their home and if you people do go for a fight and then it is for real and not this pushing around wimpy crap we got around here (mainly because everyone is afraid to loose their home in a lawsuit because of braking someone else's nose).

Well, I agree with you totally, I am on your side on that one. I would reccomend you to buy a new game every now and then that is worth it, but as you said, spending so much money on constant pc upgrades just to play a few games that are worth it at the end is actually not worth it. That is why I am here, also saying that I will not upgrade my PC anymore, I will play the games that I can still play and when this baby gets too old than bye bye to gaming, at the end you get more good out of it than bad.

My uncle died on one as well. But back to the original topic. On the PC front, there are some intriguing games on the horizon, at the forefront of which is Crysis. DX10 should make things interesting. On the console side, Wii and 360 are always coming up with neat stuff :) I'm a gamer of 16 years and going strong! Loud and proud =D

Take my example. Im an Englishman living in Japan. I teach English every week day from 3pm to 9pm. I sleep with lots of girls, mainly girls who dont mind just coming over when i mail them. Also, I go out every saturday night to meet new girls. I play counter strike source almost every night, just a few hours here and there. I also play console games if I have the time. There is room in your life for many things, I go to the gym every morning, I manage to find time to cook twice a day also. If you really want to do something you will find the time for it. And if you cant find the time, re-evaluate your priority list and start again. I believe when I stop gaming it will be whe i get married and have kids. But thats another story...

I know where you're comming from, I've felt the same feeling lately as well. I think it's got to do with the fact that when you've played as much as we have you start to recognize more and more of the "new" games that comes out.

Take all those WW2 shooters, I mean medal of honor was great and so was call of duty. But when it comes to the third installment of a series and it's basically the same game all over a game you just feel that you've "been there done that".

For me it's the same deal with RTS games these days. I had my highs with starcraft some years ago and nothing I've played since then has been as great. In part it's probably because starcraft is just a superb game - but I also suspect that it's hard not to compare anything else that comes after starcraft to that thrilling first RTS experience.

These days I found myself more and more drawn to adventure games since most of them have a unique story, and every new game feels fresh in some way. Much like new movies often tend always offer some twist on something.

Oh - and about motorbikes... I've crashed and lived so I can conclude that motorbikes are FUN but way too dangerous... I don't want to die just yet.... ;-)

He's probably selling his PC because he has to pay for his drinking problem......   One night stands....LOL   More likely he's whipped on some chick whos making him sell his PC so he can "spend more time with her"    DON'T LET THEM COTROL YOU DUDE!!    I'm 27 years old with a girl, nice car, great job, and I still find a few hours a week to play some games. Stop playing little kid games if you don't like it. There are great sims out there that are challenging and require some thought. Try some of those out. If you don't like sims get a good old school RPG. Morrowind is great RPG that does'nt require a top of the line PC. Pick that one up.

i think the concept of growing out of computer games is a misnomer - to accept that concept is to accept that computer games are somehow inherently childish - but as far as i'm concerned, computer games are a legitimate adult entertainment medium and form of storytelling on par with television and film and book (in some ways better, in others worse)

and no one would ever use the expression i grew up to underscore why they stopped liking television or film - the concept doesn't even compute in our brains - and i feel it's unfair to use the expression with computer games, because they really are no less childish when presented in the correct context

2006 was a hiccup year for pc gaming, and seeing sequel after sequel after tired serialised franchise sequel on the next-gen consoles, it's easy to be disillusioned with gaming as a whole

i think we're about the same age - i'm 22 - and as i've gotten older, my priorities have changed and computer games have become less the centrepiece of my life, but that doesn't mean i won't find myself up at 4am playing system shock 2 or taking a weekend out to marathon a medieval 2 campaign, because computer gaming is still, and i hope always, my primary source of entertainment

but as you get older, your life goes from being divided into: being at school and not being at school, to work and social life and love life and - probably - a large number of time-consuming hobbies and activities - as you get older you have more responsibily, more stuff to do and less time to do it in - so your priorities quickly become apparent to you, perhaps without you even consciously choosing them

but yeah, i think the entire concept of growing up is just totally misplaced, and i really wish people would acknowledge gaming as more than mindless fun -- for kids

Past few years i've just become more and more bored of the industry, it's a real big mix of things tbh and i've loved gaming since i was little. The lack of anything new is really killer because i don't see the games going anywhere exciting like they did previous generations. However is it partly my age? I'm taking more a liking into real life and cars/bikes and one night stands, going out on weekends pissed. I work during the week and i just don't have the time for it anymore.

Whats killer is having to upgrade my PC all the time, when i was a kid and got my mum to pay for it, then it was fine but as i go to college and job and have bills to pay, it's just not easy anymore. I have about £100 from everything i make to myself after the bills and food, that normally goes on petrol lol.

I dunno i really think theres sooo many factors in it, being the industry and life, i never thought i'd get tired of gaming though. Always thought i'd get a job in the industry, however no company seems to wanna hire me off of grades. They all was you to go out there and make mods and hire people that have proved themselves. I have no friends who like games or want to do this so you can't really mod on your own with a few hours a week to spare.

Anyways just my thoughts as i sell my PC for money for a new bike.

I'm in a similar situation.  Ever fewer games hold my interest.  I havn't gotten a new PS2 game in months and my Wii sits idle.  I strongly recommend just taking a break.  Don't think about games and don't come to gaming sites.  One day you may miss them again, or you may not.  It's indeed hard to get excited about games when we've been playing so many years that we've pretty much seen and beaten them all.  I myself am only playing games for 2 or 3 hours a week now.  There's just more interesting stuff out there in real life now.  Take a break.
