Seriously though, Torchlight is a great game and its sequel (Torchlight 2) is looking to be even better, whereas Diablo 3 is not looking as great. Diablo 3 might as well have been an MMORPG since it doesn't even offer a OFFLINE single player mode. That's just pathetic. Also, Torchlight 2 looks like it has better graphics and gameplay than Diablo 3 as well.

Opinions?

B!tch please.

Torchlight wasn't even better than Diablo and came out 12 years later.

Diablo 2 is known as one of the best games of all times and despite the fugly and incredibly outdated graphics it's still a blast to play.

Diablo 3 will pwn the crap out of Torchlight 2. I'll still buy both but there's no way in hell Torchlight can be considered equal, let alone better/more popular than Diablo 3.

I'm really looking forward to playing both (Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3) and I'm sure that both will be awesome (that's all that really matters to me).

I don't buy games until they are $20 or less, so that means I will be playing Torchlight 2 on day 1 and Diablo 3 probably on day 585. lol

I really don't think enough is made of how awesome it is that the Torchlight games are being priced at $19.99. Imagine if more games were available on day 1 at that price (and at that high level of quality).

Torchlight 2 graphics are a lot worse than Diablo, their art direction with this sequel is so bad it makes Torchlight 1 look a lot better (which is still far from how Diablo looks, both artistically and technically).

As for looking, I wouldn't know, I do know it plays a lot better.

They both looks great and i will play both but probably Torchlight 2 first because 20 is a good price, 60 is insane for any game and prefer waiting for specials.

I think Grim dawn will beat them both in gameplay but D3 and torchlight 2 look good also. Don't know why people complain which is better you'll just end up playing them all anyway.

Did you just claim that Torchlight 2 has better graphics than Diablo 3? Really? I understand there is a subjective aspect to judging graphics...but I can't see how ANYONE would think that. And as far as "gameplay"...LOL...nothing in Torchlight is going to touch Inferno mode.

I dont really get all the T2 hype...

Torchlight 1 wasnt any good at all compared to D2...

D3 will crush it so badly...

Also, how is Runic going to deal with cheaters? How are they going to deal with Items that have been modded so drasticly that all the regular is worthless? If you want a SERIOUS competitive online experience, theres no way you can people allow to mod their games or let them play their chars in singleplayer. It doesnt work.

Maybe they aren't going for competition? It's not like anyone would take it seriously with Diablo 3 out anyway.

not rly diablo is the father of this actiong rpg genre and diablo 3 will probably stomp all over the other games of the genere, not to mention a lot more budget and made by blizzard helps.

It's a shame they aren't allowing gamepad support for either Torchlight game though, considering a sh*t tonne of developers do.

Similar to Bioware in that regard. I mean, if the developers of indie games like Shank can provide gamepad support and a separate GUI for gamepads, why the hell can't developers like Bioware and Mythic?

All that cheating crap doesn't matter in the least bit. It is a GAME after all. What DOES matter is that Diablo 3 is not playable by people without internet connections, slow internet connections, or possibly not even by people with fast internet connections but high latency (e.g. satellite internet connections). In my opinion, that makes Diablo 3 a massive failure. Making a fast internet connection with low latency a requirement for a game is nothing but MMORPG territory. What a horribly bad decision by Blizzard.

Yeah. We're in this weird place right now where (since none of these games have been released) our speculation can run rampant. Here's the reality, though: When Diablo III launches it will have a longer lifetime, better sales, and better critical reception. If the beta is any indication, it's going to be a knockout.

Last I heard, Diablo 3 requires a constant internet connection because a lot of the game information is server-side. Apparently, there have even been reports that high latency connections make Diablo 3 unplayable because of this.

The game is in beta, "reports" can't be taken seriously, since you have a global beta that takes place on "US" servers only, something that will not happen once the game gets released and every region will have its own servers, even so, from EU it was great most of the time, but yes, it's an online only game.

I can't see why people want to try and compare Torchlight II to Diablo III. Runic's team has said it before, they're not looking to compete with Diablo III. They just want to create a fun game for people to enjoy.

I'll be buying both games and I'll (probably) enjoy the hell out of them.

Its DRM and cheat protection is constant internet connection, it's a WoW "toned down" to Diablo, even if you play alone, it'll be online.

This ^^ There are big differences between the two games, and the development budgets and team sizes are vastly different. Torchlight 2 doesn't need as many sales to become profitable, and not everyone wants to play Diablo 3. There is room for both games in the market. Personally I'll be playing co-op Torchlight 2 (over LAN) when it comes out. I like the art style and all the changes they've made since Torchlight 1. I'm still on the fence about Diablo 3, because I've never really enjoyed the series that much, and don't like constant online for any game except multiplayer.

well thats gonna be crap then

its superfective

diablo 3 hype goes down.

still gonna play it, but its gonna be awesome the lag the first day, how dumb are developers to make you connect all time to play a single player game.

This guy comes off as some Runic games hired thug purposefully bashing Diablo 3.. but the funny thing is Max Schaefer is a stand-up guy and would never do something like that, so he's just a lost and confused fanboy. Diablo 3 in its beta form is a fantastic game.. despite some failings. Torchlight 2 - from what little has been made publicly viewable - also looks to be enjoyable. One costs $60+ and is coming out May 15th, the other costs $20 and has no set release date (read: no time soon). The two games have no impact on each other. I'm going to buy both and subsequently feel bad for the people who denied themselves the experience.

Check out this modded Torchlight with extra classes, extra pets, and high resolution textures. It easily looks as good as Diablo 3 and has more options to boot! LINK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNrn9C6oOP4

Torchlight is only $14.99 on Steam right now, which is an absolute bargain.

On the other hand, Diablo 3 will be around $60 on release day and is not playable offline.

Torchlight wins this contest easily.

Diablo 2 was such a great game, too bad Diablo 3 went the MMORPG route and totally destroyed the series. We waited all these years for a new Diablo game and we got a game that is not even playable by certain people with certain types of internet connections.

The day Blizzard announced the constant internet connection requirement for Diablo 3, was a sad day in gaming history.

Why are you comparing a game released two years ago with a game that has yet to be released?

Why not compare two games that haven't been released yet, or two games that have already been released?

What kind of dumb comparison is that?

Not really, personally, I think a $20 Torchlight 2 just offers better value for a similar experience. Mods, offline-modes and steamworks are just extra icing on the cake.

True. That's a good point. Even though I prefer Diablo series over Torchlight, Runic games has put multiplayer online in the game this time which is a huge plus. I think that speaks for itself and it'll give Torchlight 2 players a better gameplay experience. All for only $20 - you really can't complain about that. :)

I read in a thread on another forum yesterday that Torchlight is made by some of the old Blizzard North devs that made Diablo and Diablo 2. People complain about how those people left and how Diablo 3 is "cartoony" kinda gives me a chuckle. I realise they're two different games, but it's still a bit funny.

Yep, there's a limit to how delusional you can be, even around here there were people that went "oh...f* Diablo, I'm not playing kids games, it's way too cartoony, for that reason I'm getting Torchlight 2" which compared to something "cartoony" like Diablo 3 it's like Powerpuff Girls meets My Little Pony.

No, I don't think so. No matter how controversial it is, the real money auction house is going to draw a ton of people (as well as hackers/botters). If it ends up working (not hacked to death), players choosing which to buy will always have that nagging feeling "I could make a few bucks selling items in Diablo 3". Money talks.

What's that about there being no offline single-player mode in Diablo 3?

Yup, you heard it right. Apparently there is no single player offline mode in Diablo 3. Unbelievable but true.

How the heck is that "unbelievable"? It's DRM.
