as the topic says realy

ive been playing pc games for a while now and amiga games before i started off, and the one thing that i always wanted is a decent control pad (mainly for raceing games) ive had so many different pads (sidewinders ect) and none of them has felt the same as a good console pad.

with the x360 pad being fully compatable with pc i just wondering will some games now take the 360 pad the default pad blueprint? i seen in rainbow 6 vegas that there was an option to use the 360 pad

and if you have tryied it what was it like? dont get me wrong ill take a keyboard + mouse over a pad for 90% of games but i wouldnt mind useing a pad for some games

I bought it, but if you're still using XP the compatibility sucks. The thing pretty much only works with Vista. I had to buy a 360 just so I could have something I could use it for.

Yes, I have, the controller itself is pretty comfortable but you need to install modded drivers to get better support in some games like bf2 or nfs: mw, but there are several games that support the control natively like Jade Empire, PoP: TT, and vista games if I recall right :P

As for the control becoming a standard, I'm pretty sure it will but only for sports games.

I use an original xbox controller on my pc just to let you know, but it's pretty close to the same result.

Older games tend to have crappy support for gamepads.  If the game actually supports a gamepad you'll have fun reconfiguring all the buttons, and figuring out what the hell "b8" is in the middle of a game.

With Vista and "games for windows" the gamepad support is only going to get better over time, and the 360 gamepad is the best you'll find on the market.

Since ive had a 360 controller ive come to realize the games that support gamepads most, or the least amount of problems, tend to be racers.

This is the truth right here.  I picked up the 360 controller and tried configuring it (default drivers) for BF2 flight.  Imagine my surprise when I found out that I couldn't assign pitch and banking to the same analog stick.  So now I have pitch tasked to my left thumbstick and banking assigned to my right thumbstick...pain in the butt if you ask me.  Thankfully, Halo PC and TD: Unlimited seem to work okay.

I have one and use it for Test Drive Unlimited. Works pretty good. I wouldn't use it for BF2. I guess I just got use to using the mouse for everything.

I have one, but it seems to be collecting dust lately. I played through the entire Prince of Persia series with it, and played a little Tomb Raider: Legend with it too. I also used it to play a little emulation games, although I probably shouldn't have mentioned that. But since then, I haven't used it much, aside from doing non-gaming stuff while waiting for my G7's battery to charge. It's very comfortable and lightweight, but still has a satisfying heft unlike the PS3 controller. The offset analog sticks design is quite logical, and the buttons are firm and responsive. It can require a little tweaking to work with games, and there are some incompatibilities - but that's where JoyToKey comes in. My one big complaint is that the D-Pad sucks. My most memorable use of the Xbox 360 controller was when I mapped commands to it with JoyToKey, then played a game of Total Annihilation (a RTS) with it. It worked surprisingly well, but I wouldn't trade in my mouse and keyboard for it.

I have a 360 like controller and have used it for many games including fps, it's just not getting much use atm. I did use it quite a bit for flatout 2 demo and it worked quite well esp with rumble but I can't see myself using it for many other genres.

i use an ordianary xbox pad (that i soldered a USB connector onto)

its not bad, it didnt tae too long to get the drivers sorted out for it to get it working properly and its detected by most games i haev tried it with that have joypad suppport

for games that dont support a pad and emulators i use a program called xpadder

I have one and it works great. No compatibility issues at all and Im only using the default drivers. The only thing that I dont like is that the force feedback doesnt work on all games. Right now, Im playing Blazing Angels and FIFA 07 with it.

I have an Xbox 1 Controller S on PC and it is fantastic.  I have not tried a 360 controller but it seems there are a lot more complaints about the 360 controller not working for many games where there are no complaints about the Controller S.  The XBCD drivers are just perfect.  I could be wrong but it seems that the Xbox 1 control on PC is better than the 360 controller.
