Hi, I'm upgrading my dad's pc. We are keeping the case, the 550watt psu, ide hdd & dvd burner. We are changing the motherboard, cpu, ram, and video card. We are set with 2gb ddr2 800 ram - $55 (is G.Skill the best brand to choose for this?) We are set with a 512mb 4350 - $35 (not used for games) We cannot decide between an e5300 2.6ghz or a e5400 2.7ghz, there is a 10 dollar difference between them. (which one is more overclockable - any other reccomendations about these two) Motherboard: Gigabyte G41MT-ES2L - $63 or Asus P5G41T-M-LX - $64 Any help will be highly appreciated, thanks heaps. Its aussie prices btw

Well, I did some research and the E5400 is not only faster stock, it also carries a faster multipler (13.5 vs the E5300's 13), this means it's the better potential overclocker because you can push the FSB easier. Also G.Skill is a reliable RAM company, I know lots of people who have put G.Skill into their machines and have built machines with G.Skill and haven't encountered a problem with them yet. Also for the price their speeds and CAS-Latencies are very competetive. As for motherboards, I generally prefer the American Megatrends BIOS Asus uses on their boards, easier and more accessible in my opinion. Also better ogranized and setting things up like AHCI on HDDs seemed to be more of a no brainer on American Megatrends for some reason.

I can attest to the G.Skill. Gigabyte isn't a bad choice as well. Its a win-win either way.

G. Skill ram is great (I am using it now). As Marfoo said E5400 will be the better overclocker processor. Now personally I like Gigabyte as I have had the utmost best experiences with their products. Not to say ASUS isn't good because once again great company and product. I would choose Gigabyte but you really can't go wrong either way. Also BIOS is always a preference so check out some screen shots of the two and decide which one looks better to you.

avoid Asus cheap mobos, very very bad quality from my experience with the P5G-MX.
