Ok so I have a ATI HD 4850 graphics card and 4gb of ram.

First of all, I can play Bioshock pretty well, however not well enough to my liking. I play it on high, and for some reason every now and then the game will stutter. It kind of gets annoying. The game will just quickly stutter then return to normal again. It happens about once every 2 minutes or so. One rare time the game even quickly froze for about 0.5 seconds then returned it normal which got me scared.

Now is this just the game Bioshock itself that does this, or is there a problem with my PC? I really hope its just the game Bioshock which is stuttering, I really hope there is nothing wrong with my PC.

Please help!

I think my resolution is 1024 x 768.

I have a quad core processor.

Trust me all my PC specs exceed the requirements for this game by a mile.

I also just ran a test then, and even on low graphical settings it stutters.

there must be something wrong with the game, if you're not experiencing any problems with other games. i have a 4850 as well, and my cpu is far worse than yours, but i have no problems running the game on 1920x1200, everything maxed out.

Well that is probably part of the problem also. I only have two games on my machine, Bioshock and Counter Strike Source.

Counter Strike Source runs 100% fine, but the graphical difference between these games is a lot so its not really a good test lol.

How do you defragment your disk and how is that going to help the game?

It sounds risky and tricky lol...

NO! Don't do that, Windows defragmenter is the worst software ever.

Download Defraggler.

No, download JKDefrag. Lot faster than Defraggler. Trust me, I have had both of them and JKDefrag is a lot better.

I doubt this is an issue of the hd needing to be defragged... If you have a lot of background stuff running, I would try shutting them all down, also any apps. Do you have nay other games? Do they run fine?

The only other game I have is Counter Strike Source, and that runs perfectly fine.

My computer is only 4 days old also, so I would not need to defragment the drive.

Try doing a clean boot. Do you have Vista or XP? Just google it and follow the instructions. Type in "clean boot windows vista" and I believe it's the first one and it should lead to a microsoft page.

Also, even if you have XP, type in "clean boot windows vista" and click on that first thing that comes up that leads to a microsoft page, since it also has the instructions to do a clean boot on XP.

Could it be a problem with using 4 quads? you might need an optimiser for that. Not really sure though. Patches should help. Tell me how it goes

I just installed the latest Bioshock patch and it did nothing. I also tried playing with the sound off and it did nothing. Also tried playing with the graphics on low and it did nothing :(

What the hell is wrong? Is it the game or my PC?

Google for a quad core optimiser. Also are you using Vista 64x?

its probably installed on your harddrive and spread out a bit so it has to keep searching for it as you move around thus the stutter. try to uninstall it. dfrag your hd then intsall it again or buy a new better hd
