Hello, i recently bought, Ati radeon HD 5770 1Gb. Really nice card. But after i uninstalled my drivers from my old Nvidia card and installed the ati drivers. It says that the installation couldn't complete. I check the log and it says that everything was installed. Except the "Help section". And every time i start my computer i get a notify that i need to update my drivers or reinstall them.. I did not get my Crossfire Bridge either. And the "Do not disturb me, i'm gaming" door sign is just weird because i nearly get the same performance as with the 9800gt 512mb. This is the double video memory people!, there should be SOME higher fps than 20fps on very high settings (Crysis- no AA)

EDIT- I do play at 20-25 fps on very high, but on 1920x1080 Resolution. I play at maybe 30-40 on 1280x1024 which i feel is very good. Now its just the drivers i'm worried about

Alright, but there is still these issues about the Crossfire Bridge and drivers, do you know why this is happening?

What do you mean crossfire bridge? the little piece of plastic that connects 2 cards in crossfire or your card did not come with a plug on the top to allow crossfire? As for the drivers not installing properly it probbly has something to due with your system. usually drivers install just fine unless there is something messed up with your system. i suggest you re download the latest drivers (largest pack) and try to re install over the existing drivers and see what happenes

...yeah, that migth be it... O.o

The HD5770 is alot faster, undisputed.

The part about memory dont matter is somewhat partly correct, because it's much more complicated than 1024>>>>512mb vram.

First the clock matters, then the latency/timings of the memory, then the busspeed matter and so on, but the simple most inportant thing is can the GPU witch is paired with the 1GB memory use it all?, most cards fitted to 1GB or more vram don't use it, and many old cards with 512mb isn't near the raw power to use it.

Crysis is a title that often runs better with Nvidia, but the HD5770 should eat a 9800gt anyway even in that game. Link to HD5770 dusts 9800gt review.

I have the 5770, I also had a couple of install issues. I would start by creating a restore point on your PC. Then downloading Driver Sweeper. Boot into safe mode and then run driver sweeper 2-3 times to be sure that all the old drivers are removed. Next, boot into normal mode and reinstall the latest drivers (be sure to download the latest drivers from ATI). Hopefully this fixes it. I also bought my 5770 from XFX and it did not come with the crossfire bridge either. The geeky door hanger thing was convenient for finding the s/n for registering the card. Don't worry, if you want to crossfire you can buy one from newegg.

I also tested Assassins creed that came with the card. I want full performance when playing this game. But, when playing the game it's laggy and annoying.

1 hour later it crashes. (AC has stopped responding etc.) Same with Crysis. Although i tested Crysis on 1280x1024 on windowed mode. 70 fps max!. I was amazed really. minutes later it freezes and i freak out, wanting my money back. Then i restarted my computer and heard a weird sound coming from the card (i think it was the card) vibrating my whole box. For the heck of it, i checked my graphic cards box and it should never had come with a Crossfire bridge anyways.

I think i am returning this card if i cannot fix all the crashes. (pretty much all my games have stopped working now). Some people may scream FAIL on this one but, i am using a power supply with 230mhz. Does this maybe "bottleneck" my PC for not giving enough electricity? My card's minimum is 430mhz.

What do you mean? The only Hz that may be written on the PSU is what freq the PSU work at, 230volt's and 50hz, thats a standard for many europe contrys, you'll have to open your case and look on the PSU there it should say wattage and the most intresting is how many w/amps you have on the +12v. So open your case and write down the full specs on the PSU, then I (or anyone) might be able to tell if your psu should be something to be concerned about.

Yeah, i am beginning to think that the HD5770 is much better than the 9800gt. In World of Warcraft (wotlk) i maxed everything 8xAA and at some moments with the 9800 my fps is lowering from 30fps to 18. With the HD5770 my fps was on 40-60 (60fps is max) nearly every time. But Wow is the only game where it never crashed. : /

Not to say that this is common, but a guy I work with said he had an ATI card in the past and when he had a chance to upgrade to a better card it was from Nvidia's side. He told me how he uninstalled the ATI driver, went to safe mode and used a driver cleaner to remove any ATI files remaining, then he went about installing Nvidia's drivers (tried several versions).... But his results were always the same, the Nvidia drivers were not installing correctly and if he did get them to install he was having issues with the GPU working well. He thought maybe the card was bad so he got a replacement, but still had the same issues. In the end he returned the Nvidia card and picked up an ATI card and didn't have any issues with drivers from that point on. You might have to think about doing a reformat and clean install of your OS to eliminate any issues you're having. There just must be some lingering file(s) from your previous driver that are causing you havoc for some reason. That's about the only solution I can think of that could truly solve your problem. Though I would save this method for a final approach if nothing else works.

Whether Nvidia or ATI, if you are still having problems installing drivers after uninstalling them from control panel your best bet is boot in safe mode and use Drive Sweeper to see what is being left behind. It is not uncommon for there to be some lingering files in the Windows\system\prefetch folder that are lingering after the first cycle using Drive Sweeper. Do it 2-3 times to be sure you remove everything. If that still doesn't allow for a clean install of the new driver I'd contact Tech Support.

it seems as though you might have downloaded and installed a corrupted driver or something. completely uninstall your Nvidia drivers under "remove programs" which should be in the control panel of Windows. Then Download your driver here if you have XP or Vista filehippo.com

and here if you have Windows 7

I recommend downloading Catalyst 9.11 instead because 9.12 is probably a Beta version and from the benchmarks I've read 9.11 Drivers give you slightly better performance.

Also make sure your power supply is good enough to handle a 5770.

Also make sure your case has adequate air circulation.

issues about the Crossfire Bridge and drivers, do you know why this is happening?SaPhIrX_lOl

A lot of gfx card manufacturers stopped including Crossfire bridges with their cards because of integrated support from most of the mother board manufacturers.

When I bought my 4850 back in June the box listed features on the back; the 4th or 5th feature was blacked out with a permanent marker. I recently used Alcohol to wipe it off and it was the "includes crossfire bridge" feature. Sapphire simply just crossed it off the list since it is mostly unnecessary these days and can save them a buck or two.

As for your drivers, restrip them. There is a program that specializes in this, but I can't think of the name. (I always just reformat before adding new hardware that requires drivers so I've never needed it.)

My first card definitely had issues but my replacement card works just fine. What is the series number of your card? is it HD-577X-ZNFC or is it HD-577A-ZNFC? My original 577X series card was faulty. If yours is the same series I'd return it for a 577A series. See the recent thread here, http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27160096&msg_id=319290094#319290094

What happens if i don't have a PSU good enough to handle it? But how can the driver be corrupt, i downloaded them from their own website.

I have no idea what series number it has. Where can i check it? I guess on the card itself or the box?.

I only have maybe 20 days to return it so i want to make this quick.

I checked the card and it is 577X-ZNFC, i will return it for 577A as soon as possible. Thanks mate :)

Hope I could help out. BTW, GameSpot deleted my final post from XFXForce describing the differences between the two series of cards. Here is the reply from their Tech Support Dept. There are two different reference coolers. HD-577A-ZNFC uses the full coverage cooler. HD-577X-ZNFC uses the ball cooler. You can see at http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=21418 that Sapphier and MSI also have cards with the ball cooler design available as well. The ball cooler tends to have lower GPU temperatures but because it doesn`t blow the air outside of the case it will raise the temperatures in the case. The full cover design will have lower case temps but higher GPU temps. Either design should work fine. I would just assume that your first card may have been faulty if the other is working properly. Thank you. Mark

I could not return the card for a 577A, instead i got informed by a very experienced guy (he uses the same card). He recommended not to OC it. I told him a had a 400w PSU and he told me that that is definitely the problem. My computer did not give enough electricity. So he told me to get a 650w PSU instead. Sooo, i bought one and tested Crysis. Results really made me glad, i played on Very high - 1920x1080 - no AA, on 20-30 fps. Without any freeze for a second or crash. I will test AC soon and check that out. (The Saboteur to - even though this game seems to have problems with all ati cards)

To be honest, i don't know anything about my old PSU. I bought the computer from a friend and i replaced graphics card, motherboard and cpu. But i wouldn't dare touch the PSU since i had no experience with them.
