http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/01/09/amd_radeon_hd_7970_overclocking_performance_review/7

The Radeon HD 7970 has a lot of overclocking headroom. Also consider the fact that our Radeon HD 7970 is based on a stock heatsink and fan with a reference PCB, and we are experience overclocking potential such as this? Now consider the potential that exists when add-in-board partners build customized PCBs, customized power circuitry, customized components, customized BIOS, and custom heatsink and fan units. We might see even greater overclocking potential and performance to be had out of the Radeon HD 7970. This isn't the end of overclocking by any means with the Radeon HD 7970, this is just the beginning, and the beginning is already leaps and bounds better than the last generation.

If I understand correctly, the Galaxy MDT GTX 580 can run a three monitor NV surround setup on a single card.

I don't understand why they didn't overclock the 580 more than that though. Should be able to be 940mhz+ on the core clock.

Most gtx 580s cannot get the core that high. Hes trying to do an apples to apples comparison. The 7970 isnt on a max OC either. The original reviewer said that he maxed out the voltage at 1.3 because the software he was using didnt allow for more than that. He said with more voltage he could go much higher. So even if he could squeeze an extra 5% out of the gtx he could squeeze even more out of the 7970. I was just reading about a guy who claims he got his 7970 core to1400mhz ( thats almost 500 increase over stock) with his XFX Black Edition 7970 after voltage increase. you need to remember that every card is different and not all will OC the same.

Up to, I think. Three displays off an AMD card is still 'Eyefinity', I believe.

Ok, I didnt know that, call it 3Finity or something for 3 monitors, leave the eyefinity name for 6 monitors only.

Eyefinity is anything more than 2.

You can eyefinity up to 24 monitors using 4 cards. (I seent it)

Not necessarily. The next gen consoles won't be here for 3 more years. That is plenty of time to put some pretty amazing hardware in them for relatively cheap.

I fully expect the next gen consoles to outstat current top of the line PCs. Anyone that expects otherwise is a little bit stupid.

Do you see anything whatsoever about next gen consoles? No.

What we see are updates to current consoles, wii u, kinect, psmove, vita, etc...

I don't expect the next gen consoles to come out until they have the hardware to run every game 1080p at 60 fps cheaply. We will probably see that at 20nm which will be out right around 2014/2015.

MS and sony already missed a CES announcement which automatically gives us over 1 year until we can expect them for sale.

Ok, I didnt know that, call it 3Finity or something for 3 monitors, leave the eyefinity name for 6 monitors only.

3 monitors is by far the most common configuration because it gives you the extra field of view without putting a bezel right in the middle of your meta-screen. A rule of thumb with eyefinity is that you never use an even number of monitors for that reason. Furthermore, aside from the the issues you run into with processing power with setups beyond 3 monitors (it's hard enough running at 5760x1080, much less 5760x2160), there's also the issue that most games use Hor+ scaling and as a result a single row of monitors (ex: 3x1) gives you a wider field of view than multiple rows of monitors (ex: 3x2). Saying "leave the eyefinity name for 6 monitors only" is like saying "leave the crossfire name for 4 cards only".

Don't worry , the wii-u is coming out this summer and i'm not joking. It's considerably stronger than the x360 and ps3.

I don't think so, i've heard some of xbox big guys say that they aren't thinking for a new console and why should they, sony isn't budging either. We can only hope , the wii- u get's us out of this. It's a shame to say but it's plain capitalism that will bring us further, because sony and microsoft really like it this way.

Wrong , 2013 will be a release year for MS and maybe Sony. MS and AMD have been working together since late 2010 on the next console and last summer reports from sources say that the next xbox will most likley be based upon Trinty APU arcitecture. And Sony's hyping PR machine is starting. Both MS and Sony can not let Nintendo get a massive lead with the Wii-U which will outclass both HD twins

The 680 is suppose to be more efficient, performance/watt. It's not suppose to take a gigantic leap in performance.

Really? come on now Bulldozer isnt as bad as many think they are.... Just because people bought into the hype of it beating 2nd gen icore's does not mean their crappy. And for a console that means custom configuration that will use the cpu's architecture to the fullest do not go by the tests based on what happened to the bulldozer since most of the tests were done with apps weren't even utilizing all aspects of the cpu. Also AMD APU's provide MS a better route in costs, performance per watt. and easier translation for multiplatform games.
