I picked it up for Blu Ray, but I really don't think there is a difference in the versions. A substantial difference that is.

B;u-Ray is WAY better. Blu- Ray can hold up to 50GB of space HD-DVD only 30GB, more space means better picture quality.

Codecs and bitrate is far more important than space for PQ. They have very equal PQ, and in all truth, HD-DVD had better picture quality for a while because they used VC-1 and Mpeg-4 when Blu-ray was mostly using mpeg-2.

Just get whatever version you'd like, they are both equally impressive. I bought the HD-DVD version, but thats only cause I have an HD player, and not blu-ray.

Go to which format has more movies you are likely to buy ... right now they're neck and neck in terms of quality. Each format has features the other doesn't.

i just bought Planet Earth today on HD-DVD :). just gotta wait for it to come in the mail.
