Hey everyone,

Theres a weird problem when I am editing my videos with Sony Vegas 9. They are in HD format, and whenever I edit them, they lag a lot in the preview box. This shouldnt happen because I know people with worse specs than what I have and they edit HD videos flawlessly. Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

My specs are
Asus P5Q-Pro
ATI 4850HD Vid Card
4GB G-Skill Ram
Intel Quad Core Q9450

What format are the videos in, and what resolution are they? I occasionally edit 1080p mp4 files (albeit in Nero Vision, not Vegas) and they definitely chug a bit. There aren't many things that are more demanding on a CPU than video editing. If it's AVCHD files that are lagging, then maybe it's a driver issue - those should be less demanding as they don't require on-the-fly decoding like mp4s.

They are 720P MP4 files O_o and my video card drivers are updated to the most recent ones.

I mean do you really need to be concerned about the lagging in the preview box? I know it's probably annoying, but the preview box is unnecessary to be concerned about.

It's probably due to them being mp4 files - as long as the output turns out smoothly I wouldn't worry about it. I played around with the trial of Adobe's video editor (I'm having a moment right now) and it chugged a lot on mp4 files too.

There is a GPU DEcoder that works with video editing, but it doesn't work for rendering and it only works on Nvidia GPUs.

Other then that I hae an i7 920 OC'd to 3.8GHz and I lag when editing 1920x1200 .avi files.
