Well generally speaking the 8800GTX can play games on max, then it also depends on what CPU you have.

Crysis? Who knows... but for CoH, I'd give the edge to the HD 2900 XT, but performances are very inconsistent, we can see the 8800 gts win in some benchies, the HD 2900 xt in others..... I'd wait for stable drivers.

Well I guess because its a "TWIMTBP" game...... I'd wait for the game to actually come out and be benched before being confident in saying that though....

and most important, are they quicker then a 7950GX2 ?

There's no gripes with the 8800 GTS honestly, the HD 2900 XT has awesome potential to just trump the 8800 gts given the proper drivers but at the moment it seems to be troubled in that department. And yes, they are faster than the 7950GX2.

I say just wait and see, maybe til ATI get out some proper drivers or they release the 65nm version of the HD2900XT, and maybe Nvidia too has something up their sleeve, cause Crysis won't be out til September

should be ok.. i think its pushin it a bit... the 600-700 is fine for that, or the corsair 620hx and 520hx with their beefier amperage in the 12 volt rail.

Definitely the 8800GTS, performance are about the same, price-wise the GTS is cheaper and power consumption-wise, GTS requires less juice to run. All in all, the GTS is a good choice.

I know it soudns strange, but the X2900XT is cheaper in holland then the 8800GTS 640

and as you can see, the new drivers a making the card alot faster:

so, im leaning towards the X2900XT now, but I will wait pantiantly and make my descision in 1 or 2 months

but thanks for the  information anyway

8800GTS, it's cheaper, it's green, and it's not AMD. Also the X2900 uses more power than Al Gore's mansion.

If you don't mind the power consumption, I want to say go for the HD2900XT. Since you said it's cheaper in Holland.

depending on the RES you want to use you can get a 8800GTS 320MB, that is cheaper, but is only as good as the 640MB one with the RES lower than 1440 (max 1600x1200)

If you dont mind more power consumption and having a bit noisy card go for the HD

(Check the guru3d review, its pretty extensive and should give you every detail)
http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/431/

Oh and i forgot to mention that it goes all the way up to 90 C when playing...which is insane xD
So good luck and i hope they fix those temperature issues with better drivers or something

And if i were you i would go for the GTS... just because ive had bad experiences with ATI cards but maybe its just my luck

LahiruD

Ok so tell me how you know the 8800gts will be better for crysis. No one knows. Stop pretending you do.

On the topic i would say that ati option is better once they have soughted their drivers out. On the games where the have optermized AA then the ati card beats the 8800gts 640 by a fair amount. In games with no AA the story is the same. However some games have not been optermized properly yet with AA and so the 8800gts performs better (in these cases even the x1950xtx out performs it)

To conclude if you can wait for better drivers the ati card ought to be better. Although it does run hot.

 Regards

 Patrick

I say wait 2-3 months if your waiting for crysis. See if all this driver talk really means anything (that's what I'm doing, I'm in your exact same position).
