Looks impressive.

Also, TweakTown sort of comments on the HD4850.
"I'm probably not allowed to say this, but it helps me put my point across a bit better. The GTX 280 is slower than a pair of CrossFired 4850s for the most part; it's also $250 AUD dearer. The price on the HD 4850 in AUD is around $250, so $500 for a pair while the GTX 280 is starting at $750."

Just for anyone who can't read German: GRID only ran with one card, as CrossFire didn't work.
But yeah, I'll be getting a HD 4850 along with a CrossFire motherboard.
HD 4850= $200. www.ign.com stated this, it came from ATI/AMD.Also, TweakTown sort of comments on the HD4850.

Dude, it says Australian Dollars right after that . . .
haha yeaa my bad, I notiched that when I re-read it.If the 4850 rumors are correct, this card will be a real nice bargain, 260 is ok I wouldnt call it a bargain at 400$, unless your made out of money, the only wise choices at the moment seem to be 9600GT 8800GT 4850 and 4870, those are the only cards at the moment that offer great performance for what you pay for, BTW 280 is a rip off.
The problem is, they're comparing multiple mainstream gaming cards against a single high-end gaming card. Sure, it's epensive, but no number of 4850s can match triple GTX 280s. When the 260's come out they may also have better value in dual SLI mode vs a single GTX 280.iBP_Rickochet
But yet the problem is that the two cards together are still WAY less then that single card.. and thus is sucks.. No way in HELL will ANYBODY who is right in the head will buy something for so much more when they can get BETTER for less.
That extra money can buy 4-5 new games.. and games is the reason we buy these cards... right? I mean, if you just want to show off your epeen around here.. you don't really need to buy the card.. just say you have it.

Sometimes, having two cards increases the power consumption, and heat output vs. a single card, usually offsetting the price difference.
I don't think this is the case with the 4850s, but may be a factor with the 4870s.
Do you think I will need crossfire if I'm playing games at 1280x1024 on Vista? Looking at the benchmarks and the resolutions, I think I might be okay with one card.janti_hakouz
Definitely. Most games right now can be maxed by a single 8800GT at that resolution. There aren't many games right now that actually take advantage of this hardware at lower resolutions. So one should be fine for you.

I guess this or the 4870 are going to be my ticket to enter the DX10 world. I have a 7950GT which has served me wellfor quite a while now.
You realize benchmarks are for epeen boasting, especially if you have ATI since ATI is PART OF 3d mark!!!
I'd rather see the FPS people get, not the benchmarks.

Just a hint. Maybe you should try clicking the link first before jumping to conclusions.

Uhm... Did you even click the link?
Lol, thought it was going to be another 3d mark test.
Impressive, makes me wish I didn't just buy an 8800gt :P.
Why does Crysis always run better on Nvidia based cards? When EVERYOTHER GAME plays better on ATI. (during this test.)
EDIT: HD 4850 in Crossfire DESTROYS a 9800gt2 EXCEPT Crysis...I dont understand. Does Crysis not take advanage of crossfire?
EDIT again: http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd-ati-radeon-hd-4850-review-force-3d--powercolor/19
Crossfired HD 4850's >>>>> GTX 280

The fact that Crysis runs better on Nvidia cards is no coincidence...lets just leave it at that.
And anyways, people have to realize that the GTX 280 has SOOOO many more features for non-gaming applications it is ridiculous. Nvidia priced it so high for people who are willing to pay for all those features. Nvidia did not make the GTX 280 in all of its technological glory for the average consumer. As much as gamers on this site might not like it, Nvidia has probably made the better business decision over ATI by future proofing there new cards, as well as making them useful to MORE than just gamers. Besides, how many people have Xfire mobos? Not a single average PC that Dell or HP would sell has more than one PCI-e slot.
The fact is, you might be paying less for a video card that will give you great performance by going with a new 4000 card, but the guy with the GTX 280 will be having a better overall computing experience.
