Hey guys I have a question. I'm looking to get an amp around Christmas for my HD650s, but my DAC doesn't have an RCA line in/out whatever connection. I opted to just get a DAC with a hp line out. Is this going to be problematic? I have a Nuforce uDAC 2

I'm looking to get the Schiit Asgard at the moment

What sort of budget are you on for an amp/dac?

I don't want to exceed $280 I don't want to get a new DAC, so I'd hope the uDAC is sufficient

Oh I was just going to recommend the Audio-gd NFB-12. Its a hp-amp/pre-amp + DAC and is on promo for $200USD.

It uses two Wolfson WM8741 (wolfson's flagship) dac chips so it will be a nice improvement over your uDAC2 and its also a good headphone amplifier.

Wow that sounds nice awesome! Do you think that would sufficiently drive my HD650s, or would the Schiit as a standalone amp be superior?

Forgetting the DAC, as a headphone amplifier the Schiit takes the win here, but the NFB-12 will still be able to drive the HD650s.

If you want to know more about the NFB-12 just take a look on head-fi. There is a 100+ page thread on it:

So in order to get a superior sound with my existing setup for the Schiit I would need to get a better DAC, where as the NFB 12 has a good amp and doesn't require a brand new DAC so as not to bottleneck. Is that right?

I wouldn't call it a bottleneck, but the improved dac will make the difference.

just a heads up.. the audio gd amp has got a bad review from this site.. http://www.headfonia.com/no-music-audio-gd-nfb-12/

but hey it's just one man speaking, so the decision is yours..

if you still want to use the udac..perhaps u can look for a used dynalo (gilmore lite, sheer audio 006, or even a used DIY one).. i auditioned an hd650 with a GLite recently and i think they were a good pairing..

TBH it sounded like he just didn't like the unit's sound signature, which is rather neutral. Anyway between outside reviews and feedback on head-fi I'm sure TC will get a good impression if the sound is right for him.
