I got a 1TB 7200RPM 64MB WD Blue HDD link

So what do you guys think, is this a good HDD? I want to use it as a second HDD. My old 500GB WD HDD still runs ok for the most part but I keep getting CRC errors.

So I would like to know if there's a way or  some software  to test it and not just for CRC errors. Also my mobo is SATA 2 (I think lol) and this HDD is SATA 3 but from what I know it should still work only at lower speed, right?

Edit:

Ok I got it installed after a few days (not by me lol), it works but every hour or so or  sometimes like every half an hour it makes a strange noise. :( I suspect it's the new HDD since my old one didn't make it.

It makes a sound like when you power off the PC or like it enters sleep/hibernate mode, or like something  turns off the HDD.  I entered Power Options, clicked on Change advanced power settings and I saw that it was set to turn off the HDD after 20 mins. So I changed it to NEVER turn off but it still made that sound after like half an hour.:(

So what's going on? Is the HDD broken or what? My brother said it could be the PSU. Is it too much an extra HDD on a 550 W (no name lol) PSU?

My PC specs are  Pentium dual core 2 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Radeon HD 6850, HDD WD 500 GB and this new 1 TB HDD.

SATA 2 is still fine, the only time you'll be running into the wall with SATA 2 is if you're running RAID. I had an old 160GB WD Blue that is still being used as a boot drive. They are as tough as old boots. If your old drive is getting errors, backup everything on it and then smash it.

I will :P but can't I still use it? As I said it works  but in certain parts/sectors (or how you call them) of the HDD it gives me these CRC errors.

Its dying, when you start getting errors then its time to retire it.

Small SSDs (40-60GB) are cheap enough at this point that I think it's worth getting one for your OS, game and media files. If you're getting weird sounds, I'd be worried about that HDD failing. Make sure you back it up before you lose whatever you've got on there.

I will eventually but I wouldn't consider a 60 GB HDD to be enough also for games and media files unless  you only play one or two games at a time then uninstall them.

But  the problem is that the old HDD didn't make the sound before I got the new one so I was afraid it's the new HDD that makes that sound.

Anyway it looks like after I changed the settings in power options to never turn off the HDD and restarted the PC, the noise stopped.

60GB will fit the OS and a couple of programs, not nearly enough. My OS and programs (not including games) is 200GB...
