I'm using a 7970, and I want to hook up the hdmi to my receiver (its set up right now that way, then to the monitor from the receiver) but some games (Crysis/Crysis 2)have issues with HDMI. Hence, I want to use DVI to connect directly to my monitor. However, I don't like that temps jump 5-10 degrees when doing this because the video card thinks there are 2 monitors.

Is there any way to work this out? Or am I stuck using HDMI?

Have you tried using some other type of output port like if you don't have a soundcard maybe out of your motherboard optically?

Optical doesn't give discrete 7.1 for games...it just runs 2 channel, or dolby digital (like movies), so games come out 2 channel. I also have 7.1 analog, but my receiver DACs are way better than onboard sound.

Can you use a DVI to HDMI adapter? Some cards send audio through the DVI. Your card has dual-link DVI and would actually go with HDMI Type B, so I don't know what it will do, but it's worth a try. I guess if you can get audio from your monitor speakers in your present configuration you have a chance.
