Ive asked this be for but i sent an email to the shop where i got my PC from as i said be for the HDMI to HDMI not working to TV but DVI to HDMI is and this is his reply which i dont understand apart from the last bit.

Can I ask is the HDMI port the only port that is in use ? as some graphics cards internally tie one of the DVI ports and HDMI ports together so that only one can be used at any one time. What does he mean by is it only one in use?. Then he says.

If you are using only the HDMI port and no other ports it may be worth trying to plug into two monitors and see if the HDMI monitor can be selected from the screen properties and set as the primary monitor. Which i understand but its the 1st part of the email i dont understand.

It would help to know what video card you're using because that's what determines what you're asking. I'm using an nVidia card so I can only speak for those, but maybe this applies to other brands as well.

Initially, during the BIOS stage, there's a certain output that takes priority, yes. It's certainly worth experimenting to figure out which one that is.

Assuming you use Windows 7: once it loads up, it'll detect which monitor you're using and output to it. regardless of which port it's plugged into. If you're using multiple monitors, it'll mirror them all by default.

Hi. Im using windows 764bit and got a 670 nvidia card. I am using just 1 TV and every time i put the HDMI to HDMI in it just a blank screen. Ive tried every way i can think of in which way i turn the PC,TV and inserting the HDMI cable but still same thing. Also tried different resoltuions and also enabled different graphic settings in the bios.

So you said that DVI to HDMI works? If so, that's good news, perhaps. That means that at least your video card is functioning to some degree.

I would update the drivers and make sure that the TV is indeed on the right output setting.

Do you have another monitor to use? You can hook up the monitor via DVI and TV via HDMI, then go into the settings to try to enable output on the TV.

If you don't have an extra monitor, but you have two HDMI cables and a DVI->HDMI adapter and your TV has two HDMI inputs, you can get a little creative: plug the DVI->HDMI and the HDMI->HDMI to your TV and see if the PC detects both outputs. Then from there, you can enable output to the HDMI->HDMI.

If you've exausted these options, then it's possible that your HDMI port is damaged, but I wouldn't set my mind to that conclusion just yet.

thanks for the reply thphaca.

I tried doing that what you said but both screens go blank and no noise like its been connected. I have the DVI to HDMI in the top dvi slot on the graphics card. I do have a RGB to RGB cable and a MSI DVI converter. I took out the DVI to HDMI cable from the top slot DVI on the graphic card and then put the msi DVI RGB cable in the top DVI slot of the Graphic card and then the other end of the RGB into my TV as i have a slot for this too. When i change to PC on my TV again nothing shows and says no signal. Then i tried at the same time putting the DVI to HDMI in the bottom DVI of the graphic card and changing back to HDMI1 on my TV and just a blank desk top comes up. Then i put the HDMI to HDMI in and connected that to HDMI2 on my TV with the other 2 still connected and then it made the connected noise like something connected but still no picture and still a blank desk top on my HDMI1 where the normal HDMI to DVI is connected on the bottom DVI of the graphic card. Hope this makes sence as now i have all DVI and HDMI slots all used in my graphic card. But i take them out and everything is fine again with the normal DVI to HDMI cable.

:P
