Basically, I'm not supposed to have my Wii U at my house, but I do anyway. Yesterday I bought Splatoon and was super excited to play it, except I didn't realize you needed a TV for that game. Since I have no small TV and my mom has an old PC monitor lying around, I figured that would be the easiest option. This monitor's only input is a 15 pin VGA input so if I bought an HDMI to 15 pin VGA adapter, would it work? All help is appreciated! Thanks!

@captainkyogre: As an update (not that anyone even read this) but I recently found out I ordered the incorrect cable. Turns out it was 15 pin to HDMI, not the other way around. Today I settled for an adapter that does composite to 15 pin VGA, since I do have composite cables for my Wii U.

The adapters you are looking for exist and run around 15-20 dollars US. You just have to make sure you get the correct one regarding direction (as you found out the hard way). I would still recommend picking one up because the picture quality will be MUCH better than composite to VGA.

Hdmi can't go to vga, so you need an active converter.

This will work for you

Composite to VGA will look horrendous.
