I am looking to build my own computer next week and am trying to figure out what I need to connect everything to it. I want to have my PC and my Xbox360 connected to a single monitor and be able to switch between them. The monitor that I have is a HP 2511x(no speakers). I bought an HDMI switch and successfully connected my current PC and my Xbox to the monitor however I do not have sound. I have a set of 5.1 speakers that I had hoped to use. My new PC will have a sound card that supports 5.1. Is there a way to connect my speakers and have them (and my monitor) play from the same source?

Could be a few ways to do it. First off, may depend on the speakers you have and sound card you get. If the speakers are "Home Theater" speakers, then you may need a receiver as most all sound cards do not have speaker wire terminals lol.

Maybe a bit more info on the rest of the hardware involved.

If the PC you are building will have a video card with an HDMI out then it may supply the audio capabilities for you (without the need for a sound card to do it)

In addition, what kind of "monitor" is it? That term could mean a comupter LCD or a 55" Plasma TV. Just a bit more on specifics could help.

Whattype of speakers are they?If they accept optical, you can always get a switch and use both your PC and xbox 360.
