I recently brought a Sony HDTV and a friend of mine told me that I would need to have it "professionally calibrated" to get the best picture. But I really don't want to pay some one 300 dollars to for that. Is there any way that I can do the calibrations myself? I have a Sony Bravia KDL-V25000.

A much cheaper solution is to buy an HDTV calibration disc and do it yourself. This page recommends AVIA or Digital Video Essentials discs.

If you have any Pixar films on DVD, they have a stripped-down version of a calibration setup that gets pretty decent results. Not as in depth as the other DVDs mentioned in the previous post, but hey - who doesn't own a copy of The Incredibles?
