I'm considering whether to get a HDTV for my Wii. I was just wondring if the quality of the image on screen would change that much due to it not being as powerful a the 360 and PS3. I also know that the Wii, to get it HD, has to have a composite cable with the five pins. How do i know my future TV will have the correct slots? Thanks for your help.

Most Tvs have 5 pins, you should go with a composite cable just to get slightly better picture. And yes, the pic will change because the wii runs in 480p were as the ps3 and xbox 360 run in 1080i, 720p and 1080p.

In most cases...you will HATE the Wii on an HDTV. 480p displayed on a LCD HDTV kind of looks bad. Reason for this is that its giving you a really good image of how bad a 480p image is. Older tv's are good at hiding the flaws cause they don't give you HDtv. I actually bought a small samsung slimfit tv...(standard def) specifically for Wii, PS2, Gamecube and all previous consoles I happen to own.

Don't get HDTV for Wii ... get it cause you want one...you probably won't be overly happy with the appearance of your games.

I agree with JohnD212, don't get an HDTV just for the Wii. The highest resolution the Wii can display is 480p, which isn't all that great. Standard definition is 480i.

I have a 32" LCD HDtv and a Wii connected to it with component cables. I have seen it in 480i and 480p and I prefer 480p. I think Super Mario Galaxy looks great in 480p and as do most other Wii titles that take advantage of it. You can set your Wii in its menu to display in Standard Definition on an HDtv (you have to change this setting anyway to get 480p, default is SDtv). Either way, component cables are worth it. Try both and see what you prefer.

i think it is most certainly worth it... For the widescreen alone. Also, as previously stated, Galaxy, and other games look much better in 480p... Just take your Wii to a store and try it out for yourself.

Not worth it for just the Wii but if you plan on getting a ps3 or 360 as well then go ahead. The Wii looks great on my 42 inch 1080p hdtv. I cant understand what problem people are having with getting the wii to look fine on hdtvs. Get the component cable (red, blue, green, red, white) then set the wii to 16:9 widescreen and hdtv in the settings and it should look fine. You might have to change a setting on the tv as well but i didnt have to.

i might get one for my wii. because when i set my ps3 to only 1080p. most games go to 480p and the games dont look that bad in 480p as they did before i got my hdmi cable. but im guessing the wii will never look as good as ps3 games though. so it might not be worth the cost of the composite cables.

if u dont plan on getting a ps3 or 360 in the future. i wouldnt bother getting a hdtv yet... also u need special cable to get the lowest output hdtv has to offer which is 480p. i think your gonna be upset after you buy a 500 hdtv plus the 35 dollar cable for your wii. the wii is not a hd system so buying a hdtv just for your wii is kinda crazy.

The wii only diplays at standard period. Wii cannot do higher resolution beyond SD. An HDTV will let you run the wii in 480p, but that still isnt HD. I have a nice 40" LCD and I dont use my wii on it. I have it plugged into a CRT SD because it looked too blocky on my HDTV.

480p - 480 progressive; form of standard-definition digital television (SDTV) comparable to VGA computer displays but not considered high-definition television (HDTV), though 480p is discernibly cleaner and slightly sharper than analog television. The native resolution of DVD is 480p, but that resolution can be seen only if a DVD player outputs a progressive-scan signal and the DTV has progressive-scan or component-video inputs; it is also known as EDTV.

So if I use s-video and a game has 720p as an option and I'm using a HDTV I'm not playing in HD if its widescreen?

Most games look plain bad in the wii. However, not all of them. I play on a 40 inch bravia and I think that Brawl looks and plays amazing, so does Super Mario Galaxy. But sadly, those are the few exceptions.
