Headphones with a good soundstage for first-person shooters. Enjoy your wallhacking accusations.

I hate wearing headphones.

The_Capitalist

Is it a comfort issue? Open-back headphones tend to be really comfortable. They don't try to isolate, so there's no pressure on your ears.

Speakers... I also hate headphones... They are very uncomfortable to me, and most of the times my ears sweat, because of them.

Both... depending on my mood. Headphones are especially useful when the voice acting is hard to make out. I've got decent headhpones and speakers; nothing high end, but good enough. Logitech Z-2300 and Sennheiser PX 100.

Headphones. I'm a bit of an audiophile and just can't stand the quality of the sound coming out of speakers.

Headphones. I feel that it really immerses you in the game especially if you're playing a game like Dead Space.

I can't stand speakers, they are loud and they don't offer the same immersion headphones do.

When I was living in my own house, I was using speakers. But then we moved to a smaller apartment in a building, so since then I've discovered the joy of gaming with huge Sennheiser headphones. I do love my 5.1 Logitech speakers, though, and like to listen to music through them better than my headphones.

Nah, high quality headphones will always sound better then speakers simply because of how each function. I've got both and prefer using my headphones for quality.

Speakers currently, and that's mostly because of the subwoofer. Something about feeling the rolling thunder of artillery and the impact of AP shells hitting armour in the pit of your stomach when you play Company of Heroes xP.

Earphones, can't stand the warmth from headphones/headsets, so I much prefer the normal in-ear types. Why I choose this over speakers is because I have neighbours and people in the other rooms that I don't want to disturb. And this way I can have it at a decent volume and feel really immersed no matter what type of game I'm playing. No outside sound standing in the way of the in-game sound and you.

-And headphones ruin my hair, headsets crush my skull, NO THANKS.

What do you usually game on?

Headset is the most comfortable thing, got Razer Megalodon with surround sound 7.1 - multiplayer games are at best; BUT I do prefer speakers, no ease on my ears, and specially when I play multiplayer games and turn on my music it's the best to hear it on my speakers

You can always place the mic up-right and press on the Mute Mic button on the control box...And when you need to use the mic, all you do is position it in front of your mouth and unmute the Mic...

And that's the thing. To me, speakers are loud, bassy and they bury all the fine details in the sound with their bells and whistles. I like my sound crisp, crystal clear and full of little details. Even my old cheap Creative headphones with 20mm drivers made a lot of difference in those departments, and my old Sennheiser and my current AKG headphones are an order of magnitude even better than that.

Once again, it sounds like you need better speakers. Good speakers has bass that is equally proportioned to the rest of the sound, with great clarity and soundstage.

I agree with KHAndAnime. It really sounds like you've just been using rubbish speakers. Either that or the acoustics in the room are catastrophically bad.

Good speakers should be clear and balanced, and shouldn't bury any fine details at all.

Good speakers > Good headphones > Cheap headphones > Cheap speakers

Yeah, but everytime I get ready to buy it I feel like I'll be paying extra for a mic that will never, ever get any use. They need to take the Megalodon, take the mic off and knock $15 off the price. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

if you're looking for good gaming headset it's the Razer Megalodon and not G35 (bad reviews everywhere), for music and/or if you have good mic go with the HD555, and I recommend you on getting some good Creative sound card for gaming if you want to improve the quality of your gaming/music/saving CPU and RAM resources

Speakers all the way, I absolutely hate headphones (I never used the headphones after I got over the "OMG 5.1 headphones, IT HAZ REAL BASS!!!oneone" thing).

I love bass and lots of it, I want to shiver because of it, to get dizzy, detail is not a problem not even for medium priced speakers and when you have good ones, headphones are just garbage, from power to clarity. If I can't use speakers (too late, or something similar) I just find something to do that isn't related to games, music, movies.

I like the way you think lol. I'm just about the same. After listening to music with my speakers and subwoofer all the way up, listening with my earbuds is such a last resort thing. Every once in a while I'll put this really awesome bass heavy track from Battlestar on repeat just to feel the reverberations. Relaxing like hell.

I'm using a pair of Sennheisers right now. Nothing fancy, but they're comfortable and sound better than most headphones I've used. When I get another pair of headphones, I'll most likely stick to Sennheisers. Their build quality is fantastic.

Headphones. I have a 5.1 headset with an attatched mic and love it. It is obviously over the ear due to the 5.1, and I like that. Lots of padding. I only use my 5.1 speakers when I watch a movie or if friends are over.
