I wear glasses with thin round arms (not the flat arms) and I despise around the ear headsets I have tried Tritton AX Pros and Astro A40s and they bothered me. In preparation for Borderlands 2 I am willing to look past my previous experiecnes and I want to get another headset with mic that goes around the ears and is comfortable when it rests on glasses (does not push the glasses into your head or if it does it is minimal). I would consider on the ear headphones with mic if they are known to be extremely comfortable.

I am open to any company however I do prefer high end audio and I do have an HT Omega Claro sound card therefore I would like something that does have Dolby Virtual Headset surround sound, or some other "3D surround sound feature" whichever is better. Before everyone starts saying Dolby Virtual surround sound is bs please don't , I have tried it with headphones in games and it works great.

My budget is anything under $500 preferably much less than that. I wouldn't mind getting high end headphones without a mic as I can use my desktop mic if needed. I am even open to a high end in ear headset with a mic if that even exists. I do not want to spend over $1000Note: I do own Klipsch X10i headphones so I might end up using those plugged into my computer and my desktop mic for in game chat, I just figured I would give big headsets another try. Also important it would be ideal if the headset could mute the mic chat sound or adjust it, for example if there is a cut scene in a game and I want people to shut up it would be great if the headset could do that. I have an Astro Mixamp which can handle that however that would be like plugging a sound card into a sound card which I think is pointless.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Another audio related question. If you have a desktop mic and use your speakers with the mic facing you and not the speakers will your speaker sound come through the mic? I have a Buddy Desktop Mini 7G mic

Thanks.

I think velour pad and anything over the ear will work. It will take some getting used to of course. I wear rayban prescriptions btw.

I am thinking xonar dx(includes dolby hp mix) + amp + $100-$300 headphones + clip mic will work. Avoid usb headsets they are trash.

Check the faq. Akg k701/2 as far as I know has a REALLY big cup so that disperses the pressure.

Repost what I wrote in pc hardware. Does your soundcard have a built in headphone amp or rca outputs?

Just to name 2 comfortable headphones that would work well unamped are the DT990 320hm and the AD900 both are open headphones so minimal isolation and they will leak out sound. The DT990 has a greater emphasis on bass and treble while the AD900 has less bass but will sound clearer. A good closed pair that would work well unamped is the AKG 550 that has a more neutral sound with great detil all around if you want a more hefty low end the Denon D2000 would be a good choice.

Adding a quality external amp/dac would help to improve the sound quality as well the audio engine d1 you could connect from your sound card. through spdif and the dolby headphone effect would still apply to the audio signal if you have rca outpute or a non amped lineout then you could just an amp like the filo e9.

Headsets are overpriced: Go the headphone and mic route. The "surround" effect you are looking for is Dolby Headphone, which is native to your sound card, the HT Omega Claro, not the headphone. Just make sure you have it enabled, and ANY headphone you use will offer the "Surround Sound" effect. For more information on surround sound and headphones, read the Headphone FAQ at the top of this forum. Further, I have a giant head and wear glasses. If the pressure of over-ear headphones bothers you, consider using an IEM (in-ear monitor) instead, if you find them comfortable. The Velodyne VPulse and Klipsch S4 are both inexpensive, comfortable, and highly regarded. If you really want excellent surround sound, though, you'll need a big, on-ear headphone. The most comfortable headphone out there is the Audio Technica ATH-AD700, but I was never impressed by its lackluster bass. A close second is either the Sennheiser HD598 or the 32ohm Beyerdynamic DT880. Both of those are excellent headphones and will give you great positional audio in games and movies. Out of all of them I'd personally recommend the HD598, which probably has the combination of features and comfort that you're looking for. Good luck, Boz

Thanks for that great info and yes my HT Claro Plus software has Dolby headphone in the settings and a million other options it truly is an amazing sound card. I think I will try gaming with my Klipsch X10i in ear headphones with my Buddy DesktopMini 7G mic Just out of curiousity if you have speakers on and a desktop mic facing you/ away from the speakers would the speakers sound come through the mike? Meaning has that been known to bother other online gamers in the same aprty as you?

Get some Carcharias or Megalodons. They're very comfy and leave a lot of room for glasses.

If you game a lot, or go for extended sessions, i don't recommend getting in-ear monitors. These are very bad for your ears.

The natural sugars in apples aren't great for your teeth, either.

I'd assume because they block the ear they put more pressure on it or something like that.
