I just built a new gaming rig, and I got a good build in sound card, and later on thinking on getting a real soundcard, maybe the HT l Omega eClero or smth, any suggestion for soundcard ?

but the actual topic here, headphones, what headphones should i buy for gaming on pc, well pure gaming, but if i could listen to music on them connected to ma pc, that would be cool too...

gaming headphone suggestion, a mixamp needed ?

What's your budget?

No, you don't need a mixamp if you're using a PC soundcard. A simple ~$30 card such as the ASUS Xonar DG has features such as Dolby Headphone.

Depending on your budget we can try to find you the right pair of headphones for your tastes and a soundcard to help those headphones meet that performance level.

i would get the x-fi hd usb
i mean i am so sick of internal sound cards
i just bought a recon3d and i hear hissing on my 250ohm headphones when i move mouse, interference from the pc.

I've had similar issues in a different pc with a x-fi xtreme music
some pc'z are fine though
just go usb
so much more convenient

(I just re-plugged my x-fi hd usb and everything works fine, i wanted to use that for a different pc)

I dont have a budget, well i was thinking to get the A40`s for pc/ps3 use, but then ive read some reviews that its not good for the pc side...

lets say around 300$ but if its a great product i might go even a bit higher.

btw i got a z77 extreme4 board so that will tell you what builtin soundcard i got ;)

----

about the usb soundcard, arent pci / pcie interface ones better because they dont go trough usb etc, just a direct connection ?

thanks for the replies so far :)

The A40s mixamp is good but the headphones themselves aren't. Check out some Beyerdynamic headphones or Audio technica. They make great headphones for around that budget. If you want to go higher you can get the Ultrasone pro 900s as I have heard great things about them.

What are you looking for in a headphone? Do you want more bass, isolation or want headphones that have great air and space about them with a wider soundstage? Also does your built in soundcard do Dolby Headphone? You will need it for gaming

As far as USB vs PCI I have no idea, I just got a Xonar DX and haven't tried it out with headphones yet. But it makes my speakers sound 10 times cleaner than my mobo audio

Have you read through the Headphone FAQ at the top of the AV Forums? Sometimes I don't know why I even put the effort into that sticky! Happy gaming, Boz
